Thats one part I never look foward to. I hate wiring.

Ditto!!!! Plus, I'd probably wind up blowing something up!! :blow

VNV, Keep pluggin' away buddy!!!! At least your making the time and spending the time working on it!!! Good Luck!!!!

Now I can see why Bob went with the wiring harnesses! WOW! Only thing harder than that is being color blind and attempting it. Good luck and may the patience of Larry and Barry be with you! Take care Mark!:upthumbs

Thanks VNV. Since I posted,i found several for approx. $6-7,000. Will that engine run on stock trans? Jim

Well..you figure the stock tranny was able to handle the 427 /435 hp motor and more. So..depending on your driving habits I would sat yes it will. However.....If you dump the clutch at every light ..I think you might have a problem with the 502 and the stock Muncie..

I'll let the experts in here to comment further...Gentelman....??? :beer

Mark,

You arent the only one....what keisler does not tell you about their swap...in order to install a trans w/bellhousing attached (per instructions for the hyd clutch set up) is that the engine needs to come out as there is not enough room to put the trans back in place!!!

I am using 2 brand new underhood harnesses... the extra wirng is for the 2 Fans and added Headlight relays ( Hi Beam ..Low Beam..)) to remove the load off of the Dash and Rear power circuits when the head lights are on. Aprox 10 -to 11 amps (Hi Beams ..LOw Beams..)are pulled thru the headlight switch from the behind the dash from the power splic located inside the car. .

But letting the headlight switch only run a Realy Coil..less then 1/2 amp and having the relay contacts pull power from the horn relay buss you increase the brightness by aproxx 25% and lower the load on the dash which improves the brightness of the dash lamps and other circuits inside the car ..IE heater Blower ..etc.

So..to me it's worth the extra effort for saftey and drivability...

Amazing! You guys think of everything and are so thorough! My ignorance in these things really shows but it is definately not for the faint of heart or the guys like me who literally just "Dabble" under the hood. Good luck with your progress.

Not sure I quite understand what your saying..... On the insatll we did with the old 327...we lowered the motor at the rear with a stand ..then put the tranny in up on the x member ..then slid the bellhousing over the input shaft ..assembled the clutch on the flywheel... stuck in a short version of the alignment tool...then tightened the clutch up thru the release fork hole ..and then installed the fork and pushed every thing up level and bolted the housing on to the motor..

Not familure with the hydro bearing install...is that where your having problems..???

If so ..Call Keisler.. they can advise you..

Mark,

I am also installing a hydraulic clutch as Cindy feels the clutch has been "too hard to push" Here is a pic of the bearing and hose, it is installed after the bellhousing is attached to the bellhousing and cant be installed if the bellhousing is on the engine. Instructions read "install trans and bellhousing as a unit" maybe if I did not have a trans crossmember!!!

Don't know what Clutch your using...I'm using the Center Force II.. Any way what's your phone number their..I call you... email me at

Mark,

Its not the clutch, its the fact that it has a hydaulic throwout bearing mounted to the front of the trans and the line runs out the clutch fork hole. All of this needs to be installed after the bellhousing is attached and before the trans is installed. If the trans crossmember was removable this would not be an issue, but midyears do not have removable crossmembers, therefor the engine had to be removed. Finally have it and the engine in place, and find out I was sent the incorrect driveshaft yoke...:bash now must wait for a proper replacement..:( Carlisle is approaching too quickly

Dennis....
I understand...... The clutch comment was in reply to Cindy saying the clutch was to hard to push.... Not related to the install of the TO Bearing.

If anyone knows what's involved in puting in a Keisler....I do.. Except...I never did a hydro install..and after listening to your nightmare story ..I don't ever want to install a hydro set up...unless I got me a torch to cut that Xmember out ....:L

All that work because Cindy didn't like the feel of the clutch...So ...again...what kind of clutch is in their? I don't trust Hydro clutches....they may be reliable when there easy to get to....but the moment you put one in a car where you have to pull the motor to get to it....you got trouble....Murrphy's Law..... :L

I've made mention before that the Keisler kit no matter what they say and along with Mark's experience I installed mine as an engine and tranny combo. Now I know many have done it with the motor in the car but why?? I don't have a lift so it only made since to me to have the motor out to do this.. I didn't feel like bench pressing 100 lbs of tranny then try and clamshell the clutch, pressure plate and bellhousing at the same time... Not enough hands here maybe if I was an octopus...... Only other thing to add is that it maybe even easier if the radiator support is out of the way because I had a little bit of problem the first time loading the unit in as I could get the right angle to get the oil pan to clear the radiator support...

Mark.. YOU DONE YET??????

Dave...

Mark.. YOU DONE YET??????

Closing in on it........I might show up at Carlisle with no bumpers or hood ..but I'll be their...:L

VNV I hope you are following the EIA/TIA 568 Cable/Wire Guide for Premise Wiring ;LOL ....inside joke for those in the Telecom industry. Keep up the good work and hope to meet you again at Carlisle...
