I am considering selling my C3 and buying a 1996 Convertible. I would like to hear pros and cons on this car. Thanks

6 speed or auto?

some general pros are: last year of C4, well built and refined., good driver, good gas mileage and good performer.

cons: not as stiff as the C5, a few rattles and squeeks can be expected... plus, some of the usual C4 problems exist (like the Bose stereo problems)

it really comes down to what options you get, and 6 speed or auto.... the C4 rides/drives much different than C3's

ok... so you would have an LT1, and you can also get a pretty good deal... (only a small percentage of convertibles came with 6 speed) Good luck on the decision, C4's are great to drive:)

I have a 1996 Grand Sport convertible and my husband has a 1974 convertible. There's worlds of differences between them! I consider the '96 to be the best of the C4's (had an '85 and an '88 before), and there's no comparing performance, comfort, etc. between a C3 and a C4!! But...the C3 has a charm, a mystique, an attraction that no C4 will attain, and you can't take that lightly. Ideally, you should have both generations, but if that's not possible, work out what you're really looking for!

Good luck!

I bought my first Corvette in June, 1996, 6 sp, LT4, collector's Edition, convert. I don't have anything to compare it with but its all I expected and more. The only problem was a right bank sensor go out, cost $263.00 to fix, granted it only has 15,000 miles on it.

That's my favorite C4, if you have the money go for the LT4 motor. I think its about 330 horses. All 6 speed cars have LT4's in them.

I looked at a 96 covertible LT4, black with red interior for a while, couldn't afford it. They seem to hold there value, since they are kindof rare.

I settled for an 87 black converitble, red interior, 4+3 and 50,000 miles!!

I'd have an LT4 over an early ZR1....

good luck, tells us what you decide on!
