    What exhaust would you prefer?

I had B&B Stainless Steel Bullets on my car when I bought it. VERY loud and the sound inside the car was so bad you could not hear the radio or hold a conversation with even minor throttle. But it did drown out the road noise from the EMTs. :L I had to take them off and put on a stock system...

    C5 - Yokohama AVS Tires

Maybe we could petition Jesse James in Monster Garage to make a special winter Vette for the guys up North. Something with a higher road clearance and four wheel drive. Hmmm - might even be easier to get in and out of. Just think of it, you could be spitting out a rooster tail of snow like a...

Tach or Speedo Sounds that are weird

Do you have your radio on when this happens? If so, and you turn the radio off, does the sound go away? If it does, then you know where the sound is coming from, but I don't know what would cause it. Sounds like a trip to the dealer would be necessary. Another possibility is the rear view...

Can tire pressure monitors be reprogrammed?

I looked in the service manual and it does not show that the computer can be programmed to show High Pressure or Low pressure at different values. The pressure sensors in each tire report pressure from 0 to 62 PSI and they report at 10 to 15 mph. The preset values are FLAT TIRE-under 5PSI, HIGH...

    Deposits inside Exhaust Tips

You may not know a lot about how your car works, but Jane Ann, you have a great taste in automobiles. And since you are hanging around the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I hope all these huricanes have not been a problem for you or that great ride of yours.

    Deposits inside Exhaust Tips

There is an in and an out valve in each cylinder.

    "Is 60k a lot of miles on a C5?"

Who said you can't use a corvette for a daily driver? I do and have fun driving to and from work, not just on sunny weekend days.

    Piston Slap

I had a great experience and the car runs and sounds like new.

    "Is 60k a lot of miles on a C5?"

Actually, the time to buy is when you find the "right" car. The perfect car for you is not always available when you think the best deals are available. Another thought is that 60,000 miles is nothing if the car is otherwise well maintained. But the older the car is, the more general wear and...

    Automatic ZR-1 Convertible

I was told by a recent visitor to the Corvette Museum that they saw an Automatic ZR1 convertible there that was reportedly one of three built for Chevy big wigs. Don't know the year. Has anyone else seen this car or is this an Urban Legend? Are the others in private hands?

    Engine Rebuild

I forgot to mention that I was told that this work would have cost more than $6000 had I paid for it myself. As it was, my extended warranty paid it all - plus a rental car. There has been discussion here about whether the warranty was worth it and in my case it definately is.

    Engine Rebuild

About a month ago I reported here that the Chevy dealer and the extended warranty people agreed that the piston slap in my 2000 was excessive and that they needed to replace the pistons. The job is now done and it runs great with no more "ticking" when it's cold. I have discovered in reading...

    Piston Slap

I washed and waxed the car and did a good detail job on it before I took it in. It looked fantastic. I walked around the car with the service manager and the corvette mechanic expressing my concern about the paint and everything being returned in the same condition. Of course I was assured it...

    Looking to upgrade to C5

I upgraded from a 96 to a 2000 convertible with 26,000 miles. It was like new inside and out and has magnesium rims and an ucommon color (Dark Bowling Green Metalic). I paid $31K from a chevy dealer and with an extended warranty it went to $33k. I have read of people who got better deals, so...

    Piston Slap

A few weeks ago, I reported that my 2000 engine had a ticking sound when it was cold. It turned out it was a piston slap, which I learned is not uncommon. This was louder than normal so the dealer decided to replace the pistons. My extended warranty inspector agreed and I took the car in on...

    Steering Wheel Position Memory

I still have a little warranty left. I'll get it checked.

    Steering Wheel Position Memory

I can adjust it manually in and out and the "easy exit" works and returns the wheel to the innermost position. I use the same FOB to unlock the car and it has been trained. Sometimes the memory works and the wheel returns, but most of the time, it does not.

    Steering Wheel Position Memory

The memory of the steering wheel position frequently fails and the steering wheel remains at the full down position. Is there a memory module that might be at fault? Why would it work sometimes and other times not?

    Side Scallop

Thanks for the info. I can see where this would be a personal preference item. Most C5's I have seen have it, but personally, I like the look of the smooth door better. From a practical standpoint, I can see wanting it to protect the door from careless people who park close and sling open their...

    Side Scallop

I have noticed that some C5s have a raised edge that bisects the scallop on the car's side that runs to the end of the door - and some don't - even in the same year. Was this an option? Why do some have it and others don't?
