Book is in very good condition with two sections. The first part has illustrations of the parts with a reference to the page number in the second section. The second section section lists the parts numbers. The beginning of the second section has several pages with model series...
I was lucky enough to get one off ebay for 26 bucks that was damaged. Half the uppermost horizontal bar was missing and the one below it was bent.
A friend of mine who works at an outboard recycling place as their welder repaired it for me at no charge. He's a very talented welder/fabricator and...
My 74 has square head key for ign and round head key for doors.I think about any locksmith could make you a key for the price of a service call(35/50 dollars) and probably a couple of bucks for two keys.
I took an old screwdriver and bent the last inch and a half or so to about a 75 degree angle and then slid an old piece of vacuum hose over it just leaving the tip exposed.Works fine,no scratch.
My trim rings are the orig type with the tabs.Mine come off too easy, just a little tug, usually have...
One thing nobody has mentioned. If your secondaries are working you'll hear when they kick in loud and clear. If you're not hearing and feeling the secondaries kick in,then they're not working.
Good Luck
Tom
It's been a while since I worked on mine too,but you're right it's hard to get the secondaries to open just revving the engine without a load. But one thing fore sure, you can definatly hear and feel when the secondaries open,if you don't hear when they open they're not opening.
With engine off...
I owned an 84 with crossfire that performed flawlessly for the year or so that I owned it,however, most people have the impression that they are junk. The impression I get is that if you get a good one you'll love it and if you get one with problems you'll have a miserable time getting it right...
Thanks,I'll take your advice.
Actually, the valve was rebuilt just before I bought the car and the ram is new.Guess that means I won't have a rebuildable core to exchange.
I was talking to one of our techs and he agrees with you, says the stop leak will swell the seals and ruin the pwr steering...
My control valve is leaking pretty bad and I've got another one ordered, but it won't be in till next week.I was wondering if that power steering fluid with stop leak in it would do any good and if it would be harmful in any way to the rest of the power steering system.I'd like to drive the car...
Thanks for the replies, looks like it'l be 255s on the front and 275's on the rear.28 inches rear and about 27 inches in front should be just about right to fill the wheelwells.I just don't like the ultra low profile look, guess it's the hillbilly in me.
Think I'll make up a small tool kit for...
Thanks, yeah, there's a spare tire carrier in the rear, just no spare and the storage space behind the seat is empty except for the battery.
The orig tires were GR70 by 15's.I thought I read some where that 275/60's would work but that on some models there might be some interference with the front...
We just got a 74 and it has not a sign of anything relating to changing a tire.
Are the originals full size or some kind of space saver? If you wanted to carry a space saver,is there one that would work? Are the jacks and lug wrenches available anywhere? As a temp measure would a bottle jack work...
Thanks for the replys.Fluid and additive seems to have done the trick, drove ten miles and so far no more popping/binding.What a relief,I was worried to death. Thanks again,Tom
Hi Guys
We just bought a 74 which seems to be in real good shape except for the noise in the rear end.Intermittently the rear end seems to be binding, especially at very slow speeds and in a right turn.
I'm new to Corvettes but this feels to me like clutch discs in the posi are sticking and I'm...
Just thought I'd mention that everthing I've read and heard indicates the the 89 and newer 700 transmissions are much improved over the early models. It might be worth while to consider this before investing the time and labor on the older transmission.
Good Luck
Tom
