Question: 1989 RPO CC2 auxiliary hardtop information

The aux hardtop is secured using the 2 screws in the windshield header (like the screws that secure the 1 piece roof on the coupe) and the 2 screws that secure through the soft top pin holes that are attached to the hardtop. Then there are 2 brackets--one on each side--make sure they are...

    C4 Console Lid

I had to fix mine a couple years ago. The passenger side came unbonded. The hot glue method does not work. It will work until one good sunny day and you are back to where you started from. What I did to fix it was to remove the metal hinge and the plate on the bottom side of the cover (you...

    Synthetic Vs Regular Oil

Every 500 miles??? Unless you had a bit of money burning a hole in your pocket, 3000 should be fine. The only thing about going synthetic is that it has the tendency to clean out whatever sludge you have built up in the engine over the miles with dino oil. If the dislodging of the sludge...

Service Engine Soon light but no codes

For the 96, you need the scan tool. Shorting pins 4 and 12 works only for the '94 and '95 models because they were OBD I with and OBD II connector. All '96 are OBD II. The scanner will give you a lot more info on the problem.

    OBD I? OBD II?

OOPS They are pins 4 and 12. I forgot to mention that in the previous post. They are the fourth pins from the left (top and bottom). Good luck.

    OBD I? OBD II?

95's have OBD I protocol. The connector is an OBD II connector. The AutoXray and Tech II scanners can be used to pull the codes off or you can do the shorting of the ground and diagnostic test terminal pins.

    Delco vs. other brands...

I usually try to stick with OEM parts unless it is no longer available or there is a known problem and an aftermarket part fixes it. From experience, the OEM usually works better.

    Rain nor Snow!

Unless you have access to a lift, there is no way to get to all of the spots on the undercarriage of a vette. I admit it is not easy to tell whether a car has been driven in the rain or not. The easiest places to spot this are on the exhaust and on the x-brace on convertibles. The exhaust...

    Rain nor Snow!

Mine has never been driven in rain or snow. That is the reason I have a daily driver. In fact, I have an Impala SS that has not been driven in rain or snow either. I didn't do this intentionally. I bought these vehicles a pleasure vehicles. I'll buy the driving through the puddle story as...

    Langka paint chip removal????

Torch red is much easier to fix than black. I've done a couple of minor rock pecks on my Victory Red truck. The repairs on the truck are not very noticable. My 'vette is black. I had to repair a 1/4" round gouge on my decklid caused by a falling piece of garage door. If the chip is deep, it...

    Langka paint chip removal????

Yes, I've used it for a couple of years. It takes a little finessing to get it right the first time you use it. Usually tend to take a little too much of the touchup paint off the first time. Much easier than the sanding/polishing method.

Is this a loose serpentine belt?

Have you checked the harmonic balancer? I have a '95 Impala SS that is doing the same thing as you described. Both Corvettes and Impala uses the same harmonic balancer. The rubber in the harmonic balancer disintegrated enough to allow slippage between inner and outer rings. Check yours with...

    Clutch Hyd. Fluild

Leaking clutch slave cylinder When mine leaked, it leaked only into the bellhousing also. Symptoms were the clutch pedal going all the way down to the floor and empty reservoir. You will see oily stain coming from the bottom of the bellhousing and along the bottom of the tranny. Bleeding the...

On Board Toolkit ? (Fiddler's Gold thread is merged here too)

Being a former fireman, I don't leave home without it. I have one in every vehicle. I like the halon ones over the dry chem because they can work without opening the hood and don't leave residue everywhere. However, they are very hard to find since halon is on the not envirionmentally...

On Board Toolkit ? (Fiddler's Gold thread is merged here too)

Good point. Probably should go for the C4 with the sensors too. The tools I carry are a Leatherman Super tool with screwdriver adapter, halon fire extinguisher, mini maglite, jumper cables (compact, emergency ones). Other than that, I carry a cell phone with me 99% of the time.

    clutch fluid

I've been told that brake fluid could be used in a pinch. The clutch fluid suppose to have some friction modifiers in it. That reminds me, I've gotta pick up a bottle soon.;)

    92 removable hard top rattles

PITA Those 2 screws were a real pain. They are very hard to reach. Did you get the little ratcheting wrench with the top? This makes the job a little easier. Also remembered the first time I put the hardtop back on the car. It took me 10 minutes or so to figure out why the top would not...

    92 removable hard top rattles

Yep, there are 5 bolts on each of the brackets next to the seat belt that need to be screwed down, 2 by each corner of the back window and 2 on the front corners. Another place to look for rattles is the hatch cover not being closed all the way before putting the hardtop on.
