    Soundproofing Mod

Hey Bob! Thanks for the washer tip. My latches don't always catch, and I didn't think to add a washer to extend it further down... I may even be able to get the car out this weekend. (Mud on top of frozen ground prevents me from trying to get to the road.)

    Soundproofing Mod

Do a search in the C5 Technical area under "insulation". I've done my car and have REALLY appreciated the lowered levels of road/tire noise. The section behind the seats is the greatest culprit of noise transmission, with the trunk area coming in second. I think (don't know for sure) that...

    Sound insulation

Here's how well the material applies. I just let the sun do most of the warming for the trunk area. I've been using my wife's hair dryer to heat the stuff for interior cracks and other tight spaces.

    Sound insulation

Well, I actually got a heat gun out, but the cord wasn't quite long enough to reach the trunk, and I didn't want the 75 foot extension cord. So I just did the work in the sun. Actually, the heat gun probably would work well now, in that the plastic would cool right away, setting the form that...

    Sound insulation

I just spent 5 hours putting in the Cascade VB-2HD sound dampener stuff. With the nice hot sun shining into the trunk,it made the sheet much more flexible. The stuff is about 1/8" thick, and has a plastic surface which just about matches the vette's plastic surface. Took awhile too "form" the...

Pulling C5 Out Of Winter Storage

If you have an automatic, it would be a good idea to let the engine idle and put the transmission in neutral. That gets the fluids moving in the transmission. Leaving it in park doesn't. So I've been told by a transmission guy.

auto or not to auto that is the question.

I think it depends a lot on your temperament and location. If you live where there's traffic jams and you get stuck in traffic a lot, then a stick sucks. And if you have little patience for gridlock, then a stick really sucks. I got an automatic specifically because I don't have the ability...

Finally, a Simple C5 Cupholder (lengthy for dialups)

Ok... I've got a Garmin Streetpilot, and I have to load different maps, depending on where I'm going. How do you get the memory chip changed? Or do you just hook up your laptop with the special plug that you keep hidden until you need to change?

    GPS Systems

I think (not absolutly positive) that any of the software packages just use the GPS as an input. It depends on whether they have auto-routing capabilities built into their software, not on where they are getting their GPS signals. Although I haven't tried it, I should be able to use my Garmin...

mbwalker The CD Emulation software is GameDrive Ver. 7, from Farstone. I got mine from Ebay for $4 plus $4 shipping. Not bad at all. It lets you emulate a CD drive on your harddrive. I put StreetAtlas in my harddrive and its available all the time. Love it! The GameDrive lets you keep 27...

    GPS Systems

Both Garmin Mapsource and Route 66 can display all of the country on one map from which you can Zoom all the way to street level. Yes, the Garmin has all of the US in it, but if you want detailed streets you need to buy the Mapsource Roads & Rec or the cities software. Then you can only load...

    GPS Systems

Mbwalker Yup. Planning on coming to the Auburn get-together. What's this about having to load "cells"? Sounds like the Garmin Street pilot. Yuo have to load each county, and there is a limit of 50 counties, period. It's nice for the detail when you zoom in close, but I always had to get a...

    GPS Systems

Hey there mbwalker! i dunno... Since I already have the Garmin Streetpilot with its 2"x3" screen, and have used it with a motorcycle (REALLY helps in the mountains) and with a regular car, I really would like to get a larger screen. A PDA isn't much larger than the Garmin, but as you said...

    GPS Systems

Hey c4c5... I'll have to check the passenger seat bracket. Maybe that might be a better location to attach a bracket, rather than drilling holes in the transmission tunnel. I haven't gone out to the car for awhile, since it's bitterly cold, but I'll have to check that seat bracketry out. Mikey

Could you drive your Vette as a daily?

daily driver It's a qualified yes... I won't drive it after they start salting the roads. I want this car to last. I used to ride a Honda Valkyrie as a daily, even when the temps got down to 20 deg F, but once the salt is on the road, forget it. BTW, i sold the Valk because I was too...

    GPS Systems

Anyone out here installed a GPS system in their vette? I've got a Garmin ColorMap, which I've hooked up last year, and now I'm thinking of getting a tablet PC and using StreetAtlas. This requires getting a PC holder. I'm looking at the Jotto PC gizmo for the computer. Anybody already gone down...
