Tach is not working on my 1970 350 coupe. I have replaced with new cable but still not functioning.

Could it be the Tach Drive Gear Assembly?

Or Maybe Cable Adapter?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Craig.

My first thought was check the gear drive on the distributor. Back when I had my 64 that part was just about worn out and made the tach jump around.

The system is basic, cross gear that meshes with the gear on the main shaft, cable to the dash. You can spin the cable with a cordless drill to see if the needle moves. If so then the problem is in the distributor. If not then it's in the cable or tach head. Make sure the cable is seated correctly in the head behind the dash, as you know there is clip to hold it in place. Make sure the distributor is indexed in the engine so the cable isn't "S" bent and binding.
