FREDFRYGUY What's up?

You have a few people left hanging out here.

Has there possibly been some unforseen delays or problems with the rebuild?

Still waiting! GW!

The mechanic is having minor problems- oil line leak, old stock ignition wires with the grounding wires gave him a fit and now yesterday he says it needs a fuel pump . The power dies out at 3800 prm's. He's putting a fuel pump on today.
Today, like the last 7 days, I'm suppose to pick it up! We will see! GW, I will keep ya posted, thanks, Fred the fryguy :crazy :L :L :L :beer

Got it back tonight!Awesome!

Finally picked the car up tonight. Runs great!
Pulls hard and fast. The sound thru the sidepipes is smoother and deeper. Doesn't pop thru the exhaust when I let up on the gas anymore. I guess it helps firing on all cylinders. To recap, we went to put in a comp cam 268 grind kit plus roller tip rockers and ended up pulling the motor and rebuilding. We now have new pistons .040 over, one new rod, new rings, bearings, water pump, new cam, pushrods, valve springs, motor mounts and a MSD 6A ignition with new 8.8 wires. With the 3.70 gearing the car goes 60 to 100 very quick!
Now the car is a keeper! It drives like a new car! Air conditioning and new Spiral sidepipes are in the near future!
Any of you who live in the coastal NC area contact me and I will connect you to an excellent racing and machine shop.

Thats great!!

Now remember you have to break in the engine so you are going to HAVE TO drive it around a bit, like thats going to be hard:eyerole :L

Good deal! Hope it stays that way for a long time.

Did your car come with A/C or are you going to have to add it?

Have to add A/C

GW, Yes, I have to add A/C. I know it no longer will be "correct" but it just gets too hot here in southeastern NC! We have the same climate as northern Fla. I plan on driving and enjoying the car! I reckon future buyers could remove if they desired it that way! Fred

You are correct in the fact that you need A/C. The reason I ask is because I put an aftermarket A/C in my car and it works great. I did have an existing system, but I can't say it made it any easier.

I used a VintageAir Compac II system, which was not really made for C-3 Corvettes, but I understand they now make a system for our cars. You can contact the person I used here in Texas (Lewis Makeovers 281-485-7366) in Pearland, TX. and he can let you know who else might be able to assist you in NC.

When I put mine in over a year ago, Roger Lewis was the only person selling VintageAir products that put them in C-3 Corvettes and his knowledge led them to consider selling a system that better fit our cars.

I like it because it takes up less space in the engine compartment, total removal of the air box on the firewall, smaller compressor, uses 134a refrigerant and a smaller, more effecient condenser coil.

It's worth considering. I like it in mine and we get into the high 90's and low 100's in the summer.

GW, Thanks for the info on the A/C. I'll check with my vette man and see what brand he uses and take it from there! I'm told to get a larger aluminun radiator cause it needed. Did you change your radiator?
I drove the car to one of my places of business in the next county some 130 miles round trip. A pleasure to drive now! But the factory type side exhaust is too loud for me over an extend drive ( must be getting old:) ). Do you know who makes the quietest side exhaust mufflers? I'll post this ? on the mod board and see what everyone has to say. See ya, Fred

I did change to an aluminum radiator by default. My water pump shaft came loose and put the fan through my fairly new OEM type radiator.

I had a Griffin universal radiator in my attic, so I put it in. I was not having a cooling problem with the 4 core OEM radiator and did not realize a significant increase in cooling ability with the Griffin. If I had bought a new one, I would have gotten a BeCool and paid the extra money. BeCools are totally welded, where Griffins use bonding epoxy between the tubes and tanks. I just like the idea of total welding over epoxy for long term use.

I can't help you with the side exhaust, but will say that I replaced my 3" - 40 series Flowmasters with some quieter mufflers, sold by Summit, for the same reason you want to. The Summit mufflers sound like the old style turbo mufflers and I can now hear my sound system while driving. I would suspect there are inserts for yours that will drop the decibels a bit. Posting it is a good idea.
