I visited my local Chevrolet dealership today, and as I walked amongst the cars I spotted a 2004 silver 50th. anniversary edition. Some customer had taken it for a test drive and as I was told, was in 3rd. gear at approximately 100 miles an hour, hit some gravel in the road lost it and ROLLED IT! The vette was a total loss. How do you explain this back at the dealership? Surprisingly the driver and the salesman were unhurt. For any of you that haven't seen a vette roll they hold together fairly well.

6Shooter is right- it couldn't have been a 50th Anny if it was a 2004 model. Are they making a 51st Anny model?

Didnt the 50th anni. edition only come in maroon?....im sure the color has a diffrent name but i thought it was the only color for a 50th.

Welcome Chuck!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center. Good news that the C5s hold together!

I wonder why the salesman let the driver test the vette at 100! :eek I thought having a salesman along with you prevented 'beating' on the cars...
Heidi
The C5s all look the same to me, lets not be too hard on the new member.

Depends on the salesman.
Years ago when Buick came out with the Grand National I took one for a test spin. Because the salesman was in the car with me I was taking it real easy. After just a few blocks the salesman looked at me like I was nuts and said 'hey, this is a Grand National, punch it and see what it does".
I think he figured i would just goose the gas a bit and let off but i figured what the h*ll, he told me to go for it so I did. I was only doing about 10mph around a turn when I floored it and as those cars were pretty quick so I must have been at about 100mph FAST when I looked over at him. He was clutching the door grip so hard his knuckles were white - about the same color as his face by than. :D
as we went into the next turn he warned me to slow down as a police station was on that road so I did and drove it normal the rest of the way.
His expression after I floored the car was priceless but HE was the one who told me to do it. LOL
At least i didn't roll it like the idiot driving the 50th Aniver. Vette.

yes it did. And it was a different color also.

I guess the guy who rolled made a tiny mistake.....He WENT TO THE WRONG DEALER !!!!!!!.....WASN"T it supposed to be Stewart's ????....BTW welcome to the CAC.

Welcome to the forum! All 2003 Corvettes were considered 50th anniversary models. The 50th Anniversary Edition cars (coupe, convertible and Indy Pace Car w/graphics) were painted in Anniversary Red. So this was either a straight '04 silver or a 50th anniversary badged 2003 silver. The '03's have silver 50th Anniversary badging instead of the black. You may or may not recall which that one had, if they weren't torn off. The dealership is covered by insurance for test drives but I'm betting they'll frown on salesmen that allow 100 mph tests. I wonder if the customer bought the car?? HA! ;LOL

Me too!

WELCOME CHUCK!

Never make the mistake that I did... using the term Calloway. I must have gotten 5 nasty responses regarding that one. :L

<----The 2003 50 th Anniversary Edition Corvettes (RPO Code 1SC) are this color.

All vettes made in 2003 have the 50th logos on the outside but are not considered 50th AEs unless they are Aniversary Red Metallic with Shale Interior.

I once drove a then new, C4 on a test drive - I did not know the sales lady had issues - I sent her into a hyperventilating state as I tore around corners discovering the "new LT1" :eek

She promptly huffed into the dealership, grabbed her inhaler and afterwards, asked if I was satisfied with the car... I wound up not buying it but ahhh, the memories - scared the heck out of me - all that heavy breathing and gasping :D

so then you had to drive faster to get back to the dealer;LOL which scared her even more:L
