66 backup lights

Folks,

I have a 66 with 2 red tail lights on each side. I sometimes see other 66s that also just have the red lights. I believe I should have 1 red and 1 clear backup light on each side. My question is: For a 66 was this an option, or do all 66s have the backup lights?

Backup lights became standard equipment in 1966.

Yup, all 66's had standard backup lights.

When I bought my 66 it had all red lenses too. I guess some people don't like the look. I plan on changing them back though.

Unless someone trashed it, you should have a backup light switch on a bracket attached under two transmission side cover bolts, and a 2-terminal connector (pink and light green wires) hanging free inboard of the master cylinder (or still connected to the harness from the backup light switch). See my "Tech Bench" column in the current (March) issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine for more detail and photos on how the system works.
