Question: 88 Coupe - Emissions Test Failure

Spark plugs were not fouled however the gap exceeded the .035 specification.
The color of the electrodes were brown as I recall.

Thanks for your input !

Doesn't make sense if the plugs look normal and the O2 sensor says
the exhaust gas is constantly rich.

If you clear the code 45, how soon after the engine is running does the
code set again?

Not sure what tool you're using to monitor the engine parameters,
but I posted a graph using Diacom. It's an old Dos based software
program that captures real time engine sensor data. You can save the data
in a file and play it back at a later time. In the graph posted it shows the O2
sensor output compared with the integrator and fuel injector pulse width at a
specific time. You can move the time line shown as the turquoise vertiical line and examine the sensors at a different time frame.

Some of the data capture software that runs on a PC are,
Diacom
Ease
TTS Datamaster
Tuner Pro

If you're using a hand held scanner device one of these programs could help
you in isolating your problem.

The ECM does not set any codes unless forced to do so by a simulated failure of a sensor.

I use the WIN ALDL 160 Baud reader to view ECM parameters.

The ECM sets a rich flag that the software recognizes.

As soon as the engine goes Closed Loop the BLM drops from 128 to 108.

Thanks for the input !
