It was fun and a pleasure to go "undercover" to see the pimp-mobile :D. Although it gave me mid-year fever, I'm flying down to Atlanta to purchase another 82 this Friday - a silver-green.

For those of you who never venture out of the C2 forum, here is the link and a picture:

Congrats Vig!

Glad that your experience with Intercity was the same as mine. They have it covered! Their service and people could not have been better. Glad your new project has landed, and you have something to keep you busy! LOL

Progress report ( Day 1)

Well today was a busy day...

Found ALOT of problems. 10 hours NON STOP!
I got the door to realign perfectly, re hooked the antenna ( removed old antenna wire), fixed loose interior panels with proper hardware. Looked at the carb linkage.. (saving that for another day). Polished as much chrome as I could.. to get rid of the "I've been sitting for a long time" look. I vacuumed out the interior.. cleaned the pedals.. lubed the clutch linkage.Removed the old brake fluid from the resivoir cleaned it.. and topped it off

Started working on the headlight switch assy... the world spiraled downhill from that point.

The connection on the floor switch was melted a bit and fused on the old switch.. bought switch & replacement pigtail harness.. and started poking around

The electrical system is interesting.. but not really correct.Lots of kludges under the dash.& under the hood
( Like the main ground wire is hooked to the pittman arm!).Charging system is not set up correctly.
I repaired 10 marginal connections with funky crimps on the wiring.. or missing lugs for grounds etc. etc.

I started to address the KLUNK in the rear end... I wont go into detail on all the eye popping Bubba style work arounds I found in there .. just the net outcome.

The rear end carrier is stripped out.. somebody put the wrong hardware in there to hold the main leaf spring.
Left rear wheel bearing is shot.. but while pulling the assy apart for inspection.. the YOKE on the output shafts
for the differential came out.. there are suppost to be retaining clips to hold the yoke into the pumpkin.
Between these two items I was bummed.( have to dig into the shop manual about how best to deal with this..looks like a new rear end , or a rebuild is in order here).

Then I started cleaning the dash.. the interior was SPRAYED black.. the original color was red. the reason I found this out.. the armor all removed a layer of paint on top of the dash pad.

The last thing is the reverse assy linkage for the shifter.. the link arm going from the hurst reverse tang to the shifter itself is missing.

I did recieve the new title today!

So tomorrow I'll go to Auto club and start transfering the title over.. but it will be sometime till I can drive it down there for the VIN verification.

Once upon a time, Prince Vigman came across a frog... and so the fairy tale begins.

...Peter settles into a comfy chair and waits to hear the rest of the story... dreaming of the day when he would be cursing the work of another...

Can't wait to hear the rest,

Having bought my share of old cars I don't hear anything that is too suprising. Just lots of small stuff. Any chance you can uncover a decent red interior by cleaning off the black upholstery man in a can?

Progress report day 2

$700.00 registration & plates et al.
$150.00 at local auto parts store ( misc small stuff).

Headlight dimmer wiring & switch fixed.

Reverse now working.. ( and WHOEVER designed those circular clips to hold on the shift linkage.. is in league with the DEVIL.)

2.5 hours in shifter linkage.
I got REAL lucky.. the guy at the local parts store had the ALMOST correct piece.. it just needed some Extra threads & cleanup.
( 45 min to remove, clean all the stuff & install new bushings) The rest of the time getting those clips back in!( and I only got 3 of the 6.. the rest are cotter pins!).

Battery secure.
Had to rework some of those connections and modify the battery tray so I could do a Hold down.. not proper.. but functional.

Carb linkage fixed.

Next attack list...
New air cleaner!!!!!
Check timing ( seems way advanced)
Secure new rear brake line.. IT JUST HANGING THERE! ( remove old one )
Car acts like no T stat.. Will Over heat if just idling.(have to check that out)
Adjust carb ( idles @ 1100 )
Overflow tank
Fuel gauge died
Rear gas feed hose sweats
Locking gas cap gasket died.
Interior light switch intermittant
Rear end.. jury's still out on that for now.
Helicoil rear end for the spring clamp bolts
Power steering ram leaks
Get flywheel inspection cover ( missing )
Lube & tighten front bearings.
Inspect brakes
EXHAUST
Shocks.. this thing drives lika a truck!
CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN
Inspect tranny fluid, finish putting "BOING" clips in.

See if windshield scratches can be buffed out for now.

To tired to think anymore...

vigman -- $700.00 registration & plates et al

Ouch!!!
Dont think it helps now... but you shouldve talked to me about this one.

Did you have to get a brake & light certificate?

$700.00 WAS the deal price

And no.. no safety inspection was required..

It would have JUST squeeked by though.

3 hours later ( clean & lube tach cable, full tune up,set timing that was @ 22 degrees Initial) Off to the parts store I went...and dumped a few hundred.

New air cleaner, chemicals, wiper blades. power steering fluid, replacement parts for the engine I raped, Oil filter, oil and some go fast chrome bits ( remember it's a hot rod.. not an NCRS CAR!)Stat cover, stat, gasket for stat & coolant.

*)%^*^%)*&^*%&^%@#^#%&@#&@
I verify that power is getting to the start line on the solenoid when in start..
DOUBLE (&@^%#@$_$#%#&%$!!!!!!

Back to the auto parts store...

1 starter please...

Back home I go ( 4:30 pm)...

I put the new starter in.. and notice the wiring is a bit.. ( actually a LOT) messy & funky.. so I re do the ends... get some heat proof jacket, and tape the whole mess up..

Install the starter... and try a test fire...

WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The NOSE of the starter is TO SHORT..
5:45.. the parts store is closed

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SO I put the old starter on the bench and give it good clean up & closely inspect it

The START LINE SCREW IS LOOSE..

I take apart the solenoid and clean it ALL UP nice & purdy.. inspect the starter brushes.. 2/3rds meat left... hell she's going back in!

7:00 VROOM.. all back together, ty-rapped and all

7:45 cruise into Burger king

Vig~
I gotta work tomorrow so no play time!
BOO HOO!

Vig, damn is that all that you got done today? Youre gonna have to work faster, and I thought that I was wasting "GOOD Corvette Time"! LOL For the amount that youre spending at the parts place, heck call and have them deliver, see how much more time you'll save, and then you can wrench more!

Bob

Vig,

You are ahead of schedule. It took almost 3 years to make my 63 go Vrooooom.;shrug

Clean, clean, clean. Take apart, clean some more, reassemble, stand back, and admire the work. Now on to the next screw.:upthumbs

I used to watch re-runs of Route 66 to remind myself that I traded a ¨good running¨ 60 for the 63 basket case, but it was all worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

:v

OK,OK I'll take some pix's later today

I SHOULD be home around 3:00 today.. which will not leave me much time for wrenching.. but should leave time for cleaning up all the tools and some photo op's.

I still have to address the overheating issue.. but I THINK my gauge is LYING.... so I'll have to get back to you all on that...

Vig~

Sure...

So do I call you Dr. Agent?

I want a 3 picture deal though....

One for the 73
Next the 63 that never was
Then the 58 assist
The 84
Doing time at the wrecking yard
The 88
And now the 64

Wait that's MORE stuff...
I NOW want a 5 pix deal.... and a Weekly TV series....AND A BIGGER GARAGE!

LOL
