Alterative to radar detectors

a bill is in the VA General Assembly for 2006 to rid the state of that law.

Point sanctions were removed a few years ago, now the issue itself is up for debate

Va, DC, and i think washington state have this law i think. i also think it's entrapment!

MM, I'm happy for you dude...your system works for you.

Me, I put up with the lack of a DL for 7 years for street racing (yep, I did it..not proud of it, but I won a lot of $$$ doing it), and the years of high insurance rates that it brought once I got my license back (those companies have a loooong memory). These days, I have nothing to prove to anybody, ESPECIALLY on a highway or street. If I want to go fast, there's plenty of places to do it. I also have better places to be than traffic court (though it is fun to people watch).

As to how fast I run on the highway, it depends on what I'm driving... if it's my Harley, I cruise between 70-80 MPH. My dually towing a trailer, 65-75 MPH (it loves to go faster, but fuel mileage suffers). My Vette, 70-80 MPH, no faster. Yes, that's considered speeding under traffic law, but what I consider speeding is some asshat flying along at 90+ thinking he's Dale Earnhardt or Michael Schumacher (and in reality being an NDMF), with little regard to his surroundings.

And you get it back even if you were cited for use. All you gotta do is ask.

Yes, true - the urban myth they "have you run it over to destroy it" is total BS - you would be destrying the "evidence" :eek

If confiscated, you get it back after answering the summons - either in court, or by mail (w/ $$$)

new radar detectors have radar dectector detectors in them. if the man is running a radar detection device it will alert you that they are running it like if it was regular radar or laser. again i think it is like radar and can't *pinpoint* the particular car with out visual detection or being super close to you to max out the signal. maybe i am wrong and one of the officers on this site can chime in on this.

??????????????????/

After listening l have to agree with a lot of points but it really comes down to the mind set of the Officer who stops you.

Sometimes it's " Both of us know how fast you were going so slow down or the next time l will issue a citation". In my home state this could mean major bucks in Insurance increase's.

Or the other end of the spectrum " Hand over the documents and l will be back". He will be back with a citation.

And yes you can take this to court but depending on the judge you could be whistling in the wind. But l will say if you go to court and bring a briefcase that appears stuffed with all kinds of things that you will need for the judge and the courtroom is busy (allways) and if you were 1000% guilty you can actually plea bargin to save the court time. In my hometown l believe the court officer can do this up to a certain point.

coming back to this post and reading a few of you cops saying obey the speed limit blah blah blah are so full of sh!t! you guys speed 20+ over all the time! especially in your cars marked or unmarked! so please don't preach to the masses about obeying the speed limit.

with that said the rest of you that say you stay with in 5 mph over are full of it too! you know what i will say it now. i SPEED CONSTANTLY! and guess what? i have ZERO points! 20 over is my average on the highway.

how do i keep zero points? i stay out of the fast lane! cops are usually shooting radar in the median and looking for idiots doing 20 over like me but in the fast lane :D if i'm in an area that i know for a fact there is no alarms, ect so it trips my radar and i get 1 blip of k band i'm slowing down looking for the man.

:_rock :_rock :_rock You go, Mic, you're right all the way!! 5 - 10 over isn't speeding on the highway..... that'll get you run over in these parts!!! The way to avoid tickets (at least for 30-plus years) is by being an alert driver, learning to read the detector's signals, reacting quickly, and most importantly slowing down and driving safely where conditions dictate. The hardest part is mixing with the Drones aiming their 1-1/2 ton weapons with a cell phone stuck in one ear and their thumb in another orfice, totally unaware of their surroundings. Those drivers are more dangerous on average than the speeders.

Oh how i hate giving my secrets.Alright Soggy here it goes,Try this. The next time your on I 93 hold your speed steady at about 140-145 and i've found that in New Hampshire they don't bother to chase you.Trust me. Steve

Alan,

here in Maryland the man will see your driving record and can make a judgement on that itself when pulled over. pretty much no matter what he will atleast pull your documents and check for outstanding warrents ect. and still give you a warning if you are clean and are not lying about your driving record.

this is so true! if you don't know how to *read* the radar detector then you mind as well not have one. for me if i get 1 bar of K band or X band and it goes out for lets say 10 or 20 seconds it *could* be an alarm or something setting it off. then that 10 or 20 seconds later you will get 1 bar again of the same radar band then you know it's the man because a few seconds later the bars will climb until you see 9 bars and you are roughly less than 100 yards way from him. at 3 bars he has a clear site on you. radar does not shoot around turns or corners and this is a good thing for us knowing if we are in a long turn and you get a blip of radar then more than likely the man is shooting radar outside the turn catching people coming out of the turn. i have a website written by a lawyer on my other computer that is packed away that is written very informatively about how to beat a speeding ticket!

best advice though is don't p!ss off the man

I was thrown out of Vetts of Coastal Maine along with 16 other people and formed Vacationland Corvette club which is semi active.New Hampshire has a couple active clubs i'll e-mail you the names.I'd like to join the Orlando club next year.
