Welp, this is swell. No freakin' owner's manual with the '01 I just purchased. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Anyway, it seems the car has to be actually running in order to listen to music.... is this so - I can't have the key turned to accessory and listen? Unbelievable.

I've got the 12 CD changer in the trunk (which I must have some pretty scratched up CD's because most of them throw "err" code).... cassette player in-dash (what's up with that?!) - no single CD player. NOT a user-friendly system.

no thats wrong something is incorrect. You should be able to listen to cds with the key in acc. Might want to take that to the dealer if your still under warranty.

Thannks, ATMMAC, for the reply. Yes, there is warranty left. I'm bringing it in for a couple other things: Seatbelt won't retract and one of the electric seat controls doesn't work (sounds like it is, but it doesn't)... I'll have 'em check the sound system, too.

yea make sure you get everything done before the warranty runs out. The seat belt thing was a recall but i think the campaign ended. Doesnt matter to you though since your under warranty.

I think that if you shut the car down, turn the key OFF and don't open the door, the music should continue for a while. You can also roll windows up and down for a while, as long as you don't open the door. I think it is for 5 minutes, but I am not certain.

Yes once you turn the Vette off you have 10 minutes of RAP (Retain Accessory Power) all GM cars have this feature. You might be getting the err message for your CDs because with the GM CD changer you have to put the CDs in with the face down. Don't ask why, because I don't know why they did that. Good luck.

Guys his key is in the ignition on accesseory and its not working thats an electrical issue. You turn the key to acc on any car and the radio will come on.

in regards to the owners manual you should get one. Either ask your dealer to give you one, contact Helms (the publisher) it's about 35.00, or buy a used one. If you buy from Helms it's the book only. If you buy a used one try to get the cover too. I just saw a 2001 manual for sale, either here or over at the other place, including the cover and a tire pressure gauge or something. The in dash being having a cassette must have been an option, my 2000 has a single CD in dash, and the 12 disc setup in the trunk and the cassettes work in my older cars!
BTW, anyone have an extra cover they would sell/give me, I bought mine from Helms.

MP3's

Do the CD players recognize and play MP3 CD's?

Couple of things...

One, make sure you have the discs in right side up. errr is the common message when their wrong.

Two, your dealer should provide you with an owner's manual. If not, their not that expensive.

Good luck.
