Hi

All of a sudden my change oil light came on and l'm not due for a an oil change for another 1900 miles!!

What gives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alan

Thanks

HI Rabbit

Thanks for the help.

Alan

FYI....The oil change light is used as a remider to change oil. The book says to change oil at regular intervals even if the oil change light don't come on.

In my experience, the light comes on between 4500 and 5500 miles. If you change the oil every 3000 miles and do not reset the light, it will come on at 4500-5500 miles since the last time you reset the light. It has no idea that you changed the oil yesterday or last year - it just tracks the engine use cycles and miles and lights the light.

HI

The problem is that the change oil light came on after only 1000miles!

Alan

p.s. l was able to reset it, but l didn't have the chance to take it out for a spin yet.

Do you start and shutdown a lot without driving it?

1000 miles seems way too soon for the light to come on.

Hi Tuna

l take a lot of short hops, my dog loves going for a ride. And the last time l had my oil changed was the beginning of July.

The only other thing that is not working properly is my temp gauge. It will go off the scale and then return to normal. The digital read out is perfect.

Somebody mentioned that the module that controls it might have a worn wire or just defective. Inorder to reach it is a major pain.
I will probably wait to have my dealer look at it.

Besides the above, it is problem free.

Alan

If you don't go through the reset procedure (even if the light is off) after your oil change, the light will come on at the wrong time. I have heard the car doesn't really check anything but miles, and it comes on after 7500 miles. I know the manual says it checks other things, but I believe the mile check more and more.
