Check engine light

Help:
I bought my 04 Z06 about two weeks ago. I have a little over 8K miles on it. Coming home from work today, the check engine light came on. All my gauges show normal, and the engine runs fine. I stopped by the market, hoping that shutting the engine down and then starting it again might put the light out. No luck, it's still on. Any ideas?? I hate to waste a day taking it to the dealer. Is there any way I can somehow get the trouble code out without some sort of equipment?? Finally, If I can get access to a code reader, where do you plug it in??
Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks, I did, and that was the problem. Light went out in another 10 minutes.
