Almost ready to first fire my rebuilt 283 motor but have just noticed after mounting the generator that the fan & crank pulleys line up to each other but don't line up with the generator. I believe the generator is correct as the other 2 pulleys seem to bring the belt very close to the lower water pump hose where it attaches to the pump. The generator pulley is about 3/8" further forward. Are these pulleys Corvette specific or are there other 283 pulleys that will fit? The pulleys came off a 307 motor that had been in the 61 Vette. Thanks for any help guys.

It depends which generator you have - there were two different generators - one had solid end mounting plates, and one had larger holes for rubber bushings/sleeves at the pivot points. There were also two different "U"-brackets (same usage), and two different flat mounting plates. There were also two different pulley diameters - 3-5/8" for hydraulic-lifter engines, and 4" for solid-lifter engines. The original pulleys were offset, but I don't know how they compare to later pulleys.
