Do I have to have the EGR or can I just block it and remove the solenoid? I'm not even sure if it's working anyway. I just want to make sure the car would run ok without it. Everything runs fine now. Thanks for your input and advice.

In a word no you dont have to have it,but do you need to have it per emissions in your state? NOX goes noticably higher when its not operable because higher heat produced by combustion raises NOX the EGR is there to control it by reintroducing some exhaust back into the combustion chamber under load when NOX is at its highest. So realy yeah you can get by without it but tunning the jets and timming will gain way more hp and drivability than just by ridding the engine of the EGR valve.
