So, when I was a BMW motorcycle enthusiast, we Beemer riders actually admired those individuals that accumulated the highest mileage. For example: The Iron Butt Rally circumnavigated the
USA.

Now I have added two more wheels to my driving passion. My 99 coupe is a daily driver, I bought it May 2002 with 36000 miles and it has 55000 miles as of this evening. I have had two problems requiring repetitive trips to the dealer to sort out: water leak shorting out the BCM and steering column lock. The repair experience is hysterical to everyone I share it with (I'm not sure my dealer can spell Corvette).

This car is my primary transportation. I love the performance but am concerned about long term reliability. If anyone out there has accumulated high mileage on their C5, I would be interested to hear about their experience with repairs and maintenance.

Drive on.....

Hi Jeffs99c5,
Daily driver?!?!??!!?!?!? Actually, that's the Buick. I do, however, drive my Vette when I can. Kinda tough during the Northeastern winters and wicked snow on the ground. With spring springing up around here, it's Vette time. I'm waiting for the warm nights so I can pop the top, crank the CD's (early 80's music) and pretend I'm a ghetto hood. If you're in central NY, hear loud music, and see a blue flash, wave because it's probably me. I'd love to get a vanity plast "AS ADVERTISED" but there are too many letters. Until then I'm riding the ULTM8SK8. Now, if only I can find a beautiful woman to drive around with.........

:Steer Its a tough choice every day when I enter the garage and have to choose between the Vette or my 53 chevy street rod.
:confused

Sorry to take up valuable C5 space with some lowly C3 talk...

If you dont drive your car everyday - YOU SHOULD!!!

I, like most C1-C4 owners wish they could drive their VETTE everyday when in fact the cant... or shouldnt.

You spent that much money on a sunday decoration?
Come on. Life is too short not to enjoy.

If you are the type of person that likes to "invest" in something and wont use it... contact me... I need a small loan.

;)

I know of a local guy who has a 03 Z06 and drives it maybe 1 every 2 weeks.
What a shame, what a waste, what a crime!!!

If anyone can change my thinking I am more than open minded.

Hi To All,
LEEJANDZ is right. You buy it to drive it. The only reason I am presently raving about my Vette drive is because the Vette is being detailled even as we speak. Unfortunately I cannot pick it up until Wed. (do to work). I hope it warm and sunny.

I drive my C3 everyday. Mainly because its the only car I have. But also because I love it. I feel cars should be driven often and not just be used for show.

Drive it while you can........thats right , life is too short......You can't take it with you and after you are gone, someone else will be driving it for sure.......RIP .....Well you can't rest to well knowing someone else is driving your VETTE dailey, and thinking you for keeping the miles down on her.............:(The Lawman Has Spoken.....

This is the millionith thread on this subject. We from the great North would love to drive everday, but 1) Lots of snow 2) lots of sand & salt 3) lots of SUV's that think they are indestructable in bad weather. I finally took my Vette out of hibernation last Sunday.

The quantity of sand, and little rocks that are mixed, in is incredible. They spread this wonderful combo from November til March. That is why so many of us do not drive in the winter. Has absolutely nothing to do with an "investment". Has all to do with common sense. If you have a winter car, why not use it? If you don't have a winter car, you don't have a choice. Fortunately, I do have a choice!

If I lived in the south or west coast, I would drive it everyday! :beer

I second that, Steve! Driving our Corvettes in the Northeast during the winter just doesn't make sense! Talk about investment...there wouldn't be too much of an investment after a winter or two here!

My 2003 AE vert has 5500 miles on it now but it's not a 'daily' driver. We just drive it a lot.

However, my ol 92 is a daily driver. 98.5K and still going.

i try to drive mine as often as i can...especially now that the weather's getting better. yesterday, i was cruising around with the top off enjoying the 75 degree weather. today, there's two inches of snow on the ground;shrug ;shrug ;shrug

i can't wait for summer.

Living in the northeast necessitates having a second vehicle for the winter time. I plan on driving mine everyday from now on, but this past winter was especially hard. I can't count the number of days I drove to work in my full size pickup in 4WD, I didn't mind the snow a bit.

But I would have minded it terribly in a Corvette. Also, the salt and gravel have taken a toll on the front of my truck. In fact after just two winters, my powdercoated Warn bumper is already rusty enough to warrant removing and repainting.

I can work on my truck in the summer while driving the car, and work on the car in the winter while driving the truck. Best of both worlds.

My 0.02:
If I can afford a 50K+ vette then I can afford a daily driver.

I love my vette (and the other vettes I have owned) However, I do not believe they make good "daily drivers" especially in areas when winter driving is 3 months a year.

It would drive (no pun intended) me nuts if my vet was dirty. I bought it new Sept 02 with 8 miles. It now has about 579 miles. A real garage queen. But I enjoy every minute of owning it.

But.....
If we all liked the same thing then all but one man on earth would be dead. We would have killed each other off over the same woman!! ;)

PS. on the first day I removed the windshield wipers...no way in heck I will drive it in the rain so i might as well save the weight :upthumbs

Have'nt driven mine since mid November 2002. It's just sitting in the garage waiting for the first good day of spring to take it out. It's been a long, cold winter in New England! Deep snow, slush, ice and generous amounts of salt and sand on the roadways here. I have another car to drive in that stuff. (We may even get some snow here tonight according to today's weather forecast.) Better days are coming!

Its a frickin car for crying out loud :t .

I bought my C5 so I would'nt have to drive the 57 in the NE winters anymore.(Not because I did'nt want to get it dirty, but because the wipers and defroster suck.) I bought it in Aug.99 and have over 80k on it now. So the C5 is my beater with a heater.

IT MAY HAVE BUGS.....IT MAY HAVE CHIPS......BUT ONE THINGS FOR SURE I DRIVE THIS ***** !!!!!

Thanks for your comments everybody. Lots of you from the NE I see. My wife and I moved down to North Carolina Oct 2001. We had the opportunity to escape the New Hampshire winters and took it! I purhcased the Vette (Diablo) down here and have a Subaru for the few times a year that we get ice and snow. Funny.. folks in Raleigh have told me that Winter 2003 was the worst they can recall in quite some time. Seemd pretty balmy to us :cool

Like so many of you said, I didn't buy the car for Sunday dirves, but to be used as a work car. I travel all over the state and have found some awesome places to scare myself silly. Met a nice cop recently. He pulled me over (triple digit speeds) and I told him I was being stupid. He reached through the passenger side window, shook my hand and said "better slow down, you don't even want to know what I clocked you at, but you would be walking home". I humbly thanked him and took his advice. Whew!!!:t

I think the point of the original thread was asking if you C5 owners would drive everyday, weather permitting.
I wont flame anybody who has condition "issues" therefore making it unsafe to drive.

But for some of us who have the opportunity to drive everyday and choose not to... thats another story.

This is the greatest thing Ive read all day.
Those new Z06's are great and here we have someone already "improving" it.

First off I don't give a s@*t what you do with your car as long as you don't give a s@*t what I do with mine.

PS Caps is shouting

nucferr -- Caps is shouting

Where exactly did that start?

I for one like typing and reading all caps because its easier on my eyes.
I dont take offense to caps.
