Has anyone had the opportunty to have service bulletin 02-06-01-038 12-/02/02 installed on their 03 Vette? My engine has a tick noise in it but runs well otherwise. Don't know that I want a dealer tearing into the engine to fix an o'ring seal if it will create other problems, leaks, etc. The noise is as described in the Service Bulletin. It is there at cold start, seems to go away and returns. Don't know if it was there early on,I just got the car at 9000 miles. Thanks for your help.

my 02 has the same thing, its a ticking sound when cold but then it goes away after about 5 min.they call it piston slap and i am told that its normal.

have the dealer or someone you trust do the chemical "decarb" to the engine and see if it goes away.

I had the ticking noise, like a lifter out of adjustment, in my 2000. After the dealer listened to it, they said it was piston slap and that it was common and usually not a problem. It is obvious when cold but goes away as the engine heats. I believe there is a technical article on this somewhere - perhaps even here.

In my case the dealer and the regional rep that approves warranty work said the knock was excessive and the replaced the pistons and rings with a new type that is supposed to fix the problem. I was concerned about such a major repair but I figured if Chevrolet was willing to pay about $5000 to make this fix that they were serious about the need to do it, so I went along with it. The dealer's corvette mechanic did the work and did a great job. No leaks or other problems afterwards and it runs great.

I have an appintment with my dealer next week. I will be interested in what they come up with.

HI there,
Try putting 2 bottles of 88861011 into a full tank of fuel and run it till its almost dry.
My guess will be your noise will be significantly decreased, if NOT eliminated.

What is 88861011

What is 88861011 ? Is this a GM part number ? What is its name?
thanks Don

The dealer's service dept. listened to the noise and said that the noise was normal and not something to be concerned about. I decided to go for the insurance of trying your remedy and put in 2 bottles of the fuel additive. I will let you know how it works in about another 300 miles!
Thanks for the suggestion.

Quick Question

I am in Canada and the number crosses over to 88861012 20 oz of Fuel System Treatment Plus.

Do I put 2 bottles of this to a tank? It says to use only one bottle and that minor overtreatment will have no adverse affects. Is this minor overtreatment?

Thanks in advance.
