Frame VIN Identification

Can somebody clarify what is the correct version of the VIN stamping on a frame?

I have seen a frame for a '60 with a full VIN stamped in one location, and a frame with a partial VIN stamped twice on another '60 Frame.. which is correct?

The frame VIN is a "partial" - just an "S" followed by the last six digits of the VIN, in a distinctive font, stamped in two places on top of the driver's side main frame rail; photo below is from a '61.
