I have the cover on all the time.. The plate is mounted under it but the cover is held in place with velcro. If I get stopped, I just take it off and tell them I was at a show and forgot to take the cover off.

That's a good idea. I'll have to pull my front plate off the garage wall though. It's never been on the car.

I kno 3M is fighting the no front plate issue. They make the reflective sheeting for them.

Are you referring to the reflective film or cover because of radar reflection on the plate? Can radar pick up a Corvette becasue it is not metal or not? I think most don't like the front plate because it just plain looks like CRAP on the front! Not tomentioned Indiana plates just plain looks like CRAP too! But I was just curious about the radar thing and if that is maybe way some states require the front plate or not?

I'm referring to the reflective coating on the plate itself.

The nose of the Corvette is not designed to incorporate a front plate and have it look right.
At one time plates were made of leather, porcelain or soybean. Which the animals liked to eat. In some cases the assigned number was painted directly on the vehicle. Some cities had their own plate. Then came steel and now aluminum.

I have only seen advertised a spray on solution to void the picture taking. I would suppose their are covers made that would serve the same function. If not already, sooner or later there will be a way to detect if a plate is covered with the material.

License plate collectors of course like the front ones.

:puke I agree a front plate on a Corvette really SUCKS! I just thougt I had heard that the police use the front plate to shoot the radar gun and also had heard someway say that Corvettes are hard to shoot with RADAR. Is this or is this not correct? :confused

From what I understand vettes show up just fine on radar, not as much as say a mack truck but they see us. Laser, on the otherhand, I heard is hard to hit us since it requires a perpendicular surface and i've heard that as one of the possible secret reasons for a front plate.

That is what I had heard too; that laser didn't have a good surface without the front plate on todays vehicles and esspecially the Corvette and other simular designs.

I got two warning tickets this weekend, one Sat. eve, and one Sunday morning. Live in MD need front and back. First time since I got the car last September. Car looks stupid with the cover off.......Grrrrrrrrrrrrr !! Maryland Sucks. Hey we got to keep those Prisoners busy stamping them out.

Life won't leave you alone til youre dead...Then they want to cut your azzz up to see why you died!!!!!

Hotwing, there is a clear cover that you can put over the license plate. It's not as good as the original cover, but it at least keeps the front contour intact.

I was waiting for an Ontario P.O.V. LOL.

Back in the 80's I had a 73 Ranchero, but never put the front plate on. Never had a problem. Nowadays i'm more paranoid so I guess I'd run one.....

18 years, 1 month, 14 days without a front plate.:birth

I wonder if they can see it. :eyerole
Never had a problem.:dance
Now watch, I've tempted the fates.:r

I was just curious how many people put the front plate on their car and how many chose to forgo it and just run the risk. If your lucky enough to live in a state where its not required then your choice is simple. I think I'm just gonna roll the dice and keep it off but I was curious.

I just got my Vette so it has Temps but I already got stopped the officer said he saw I didn't have a front plate and hit his lights before he had a chance to see the back of my car. I got ticketed once in my TA for not having them so I will put them on when the time comes. LASER is just about impossible to clock a Vette from the front with out one and if its black it is definately impossible.

I have heard this too; but some say that this is all a mith. Has there been test run to document this or do you know? A front plate is not required in my state; it's a wonder everthing else that is screwed up is :L

I just got nailed for no front license plate... The cop said it’s a mandatory appearance in court too :mad .

It is not a myth, I went to training for Escort and we used a black corvette and a white corvette for radar and laser testing. We used the old international airport in denver (stapleton) and had the Colorado State Patrol there as well. They were not able to get the black corvette on Laser from the front or back of the car without aiming on the license plate. They were however able to get the white one from the back and if the license plate cover was on the car the white one from the front. It makes sense because dark colors absorb light and don't reflect much of it. Now Radar on the other hand is sound waves and if you can clock a baseball on Radar you can clock any car color shape are irrelevent. In fact Radar can clock a football and thats a pretty funny shape. By the way this was when the Escort Zr3 first came out and it was able to scramble the laser out of 50 runs 46 times, I was really impressed.
