A little off the subject but what does "he is maybe 50 years old" have to do with driving a vette, I am over 50 and drive the H*** out of mine, must have just been a slip up on sothpaw's part.
NO mistake there, although I am making 2 unrelated points.

1. 50 years old= not a teenager with a penchant for BS.

2. Driving the car-- I know from talking to him his driving habits. It's a fact that he didn't drive that car very much. Also did not race it to my knowledge. Did not seem interested in racing. Normal passenger car use over a period of years would be most interesting to GM.

I have to disagree with that... GM can put 200k on a car in a short amount of time themselves. Putting 50k on a car over 10 years, well, simply takes time. A car with 50k over 10 years probably has an entirely different wear pattern, and set of unique problems than one that is driven every day.
a car 10 years old tell them nothing about what they are producting now, they want to check if their high milage tests produce any different results than the customers cars show. their test are all under controled conditions and they want to check as they call it "the orangutan factor",stuff that customers can do to a car that never shows up in their tests.

My parents got a letter like that for our Astro Van! It's totally just an attempt to get you to "buy up" to a newer model, while making a profit off your old car which they try to buy for hundreds less than market value.

GM is in the business of selling cars, not buying them. And Motorman, they test the cars extensively through all kinds of situations, you'd better believe they do that for liability reasons as well as longevity reasons. The C5 was extensively tested for years prior to its release.

You go! Get mmmmaaannnnnyyyy - that way you can drive a different one each day of the week..... I'm close; I just need 11 more and I can have a different car for each day of the month!
Right on Dawn.:_rock Our insurance agent put us on a Dealer policy when I bought the last bike and our yearly premium went down.:D

Not just GM, I had a similar letter/phone call recently about my MG. Seems to me they are popular second hand buys so the dealer can shift it and make a bit of cash in the process with a fair chance I will be tempted into buying a new one or in the Vettes case maybe the dealer had a request from a customer for a car with that particular colour/option pack ???

yea, 357 aquas, 109 with an automatic transmission..
Think I gotta hold onto this one. (I mean, It IS my first one)

And amazing enough, there are 3 aquas here on the coast!
A bit off topic Rain, how many years was the aqua colour available ?? when I bought my 81 I almost bought an aqua 6 spd vert which was what I originally went to have a look at only to end up buying the 81 instead. I cant remember the year though, from memory maybe a 92 or 93.

I've been alerted to a position opening in Bay St. Louis Mississippi that I might be tempted to apply for. Before I let my alligator mouth over power my canary brain, I figured I'd ask a few questions.
What are the Vehiclular taxes like down there?
Do you have vehicle inspections? EPA Sniffers?
Is is any less expensive over in Slidell Louisisana?

No inspections here in SC but there is property tax, and last year mine was in the $80 or so, and was told that it goes down every year as the car gets older.

Hey there -
Feel free to email me for more info - Try to be as much help as I can.

Susan and I just showed three houses in the BSL, MS and Pas Christian, MS area yesterday.
(She is a realtor)
My folks live in N. BSL, MS - nice house on a canal just off the Jordon River. Dad keeps his 27 foot Catalina tied up outside the house and its only minutes to the Bay and then out to the Gulf.

Vehicle taxes aren't that bad for older rides.
My 1998 Astro van's tag was under 80$ this year.
Our 1996 Corvette's tag escapes me right now.. but we are in Harrison county..
BSL and Waveland, MS are Hancock County. its MUCH cheaper to live in Hancock County.

And you are on the right track. Slidel, LA might be cheaper.
I know sales tax is higher over there, property taxes might be higher too, but the car tags are dirt cheap.

Only vehicle inspections that are done are when you get your "inspection sticker" each year for 5$ at the local garage.
They check your lights, and the odometer, horn, etc. Its fast and painless.
Most will raise a stink over windshield cracks and pecks but not all.

Are you going to rent or buy when you get here? Some areas require flood insurance.
so keep that in mind.

Again, feel free to email me if you have more questions or if there is anything I can do to help
