My 03 coupe just turned 16K with less than 10 months left on the factory warranty. GM is offering to extend the original warranty by three years and another 54K miles for the princely sum of $1749 (ouch).

So far I've had no problems with the car, but I've read a number of threads with all kinds of expensive repairs being required.

I've found that you can usually determine how reliable something is by the cost of the extended warranty. Things that seldom break usually have very inexpensive warranties. So what does that say about our beloved vette. Is the $1749 premium indicative of future problems, or is GM trying to cash in for a second time.

All your input would be appreciated.

I think extended warranties are evil necessities. Yes, I would (I have it on mine), but it sounds a little on the high side for a projected milage of around 8K miles per year. If you figure it out that says in anouther 3 years you will have 40K on the Vette, not the 70K they are offering.
Just a thought...........:w

I just purchased a warranty for my 2000 with 43k miles. Paid $1495 for 36mo/75000 mile coverage with Easy Care Warranties. This was through a Chevy dealer.

I wasn't really planning on getting any extended coverage but the more I though about the cost of some repairs I decided to go ahead and get it. :)

some people say they are a waste of money, but my experience/luck has required them......if you are planning on keeping the car beyond the standard warranty coverage period, I suggest the extended warranty......most likely one warranty repair will pay for the coverage....

if you do decide to get the extended coverage, stick with GM......3rd party policies can be a royal PITA.....if not for a very good service manager, I would have had major problems with the 3rd party supplier

I bought my 01 earlier this year, and at first refused the gm bumper to bumper 3 year warranty for $1500.00 Actually I refused 3 times. I couldn't refuse the 4'th time. I paid $350.00 for the warranty with a $200.00 deductable. That also includes a warranty on the paint and interior. I have already used it once and it has payed for itself. I usually don't go for the extended warranty because it usually doesn't cover much, but I think this was worth $350.00.

Thanks for all your input. I didn't think about shopping around, I thought the GM price was what it is.

Cruzer82 has a good point, I'm only averaging about 7K a year so I woudn't be taking advantage of the full warranty. However if I decide to sell my baby (doubtfull) the warranty is transferrable to the new owner, probably an advantage selling.

I'm going to contact Fichtner Chev. and see what they are offering.

The dealer can probably negotiate too. Mine did.

I haven't used mine yet, so it remains to be seen if it was a good move or not. I was like you- needed more time than miles. There are a lot of different combinations available.
