Had Column Lock Recall done, column locks!

Seems like there are a lot of folks out there that still think the column lock recall is to fix the column lock. That is only true if you have an A4. On MN6s the recall ONLY is done to make sure the car shuts off if you HAVE column lock in the future. In other words it is to cover GM's a$$ in case a car locks but is still drivable. Still need the CLB folks if you have any year/model MN6.

Hi there,
The manual reprogram that you are speaking of is to assist in the low voltage condition that may affect the PCM if there is a low battery voltage when a start is attempted.
The PCM has always shut down if the lock is engaged. Those of us who have experienced the lock out know this.
There is also a second part to this recall, in which the function of the lock is checked.
Both parts must be done.

On my 2004 A4..there IS NOT A LOCK IN THE COLUMN!...so why would I recieve a recall notice in the first place???:confused

Why Not

There is no column lock in your car only if someone removed it! It was built with one!

Bob, with all due respect my friend...you are incorrect...you need to get an update on your information...I will repeat...no one removed my column lock...there was never one put in mine at the factory...2004 A4's did not require or have a column lock put in the column in the 2004 automatic transmission Corvettes...
Take care...
Kenny

Yes, my booboo. Missed the A4. I dont usually associate automatic transmissions with Corvettes since mine have always been manual shift!

Manual transmission equipped cars need the CLB.

Going in for the recall notice tomorrow. I now believe the saying, There are those that have had the CL problem and those that will. Mine left me stranded on Monday. I got it going later that day after disconnecting the battery for an hour although I don't think that helped because it still took several attempts. I immediately made an appointment for my next day off (Wednesday). Well, it locked on me today after work. By the time the tow got there it unlocked. Out $45... I also immediatley ordered the CLB from Thunder. Am I clear that the recall notice will not correct the problem??? I will still install the CLB!
