Headers and Oil pan

I just bought a 1975 vette and am going to be putting in some headers and doing some maintenance work on it. So i'm in the process of replacing the timing chain, but I've reached the point where you need to put in the timing cover and can't get it in. I understand that if I lower the oil pan just a little I should be able to get it in but the oil pan has probably never been dropped on this car so it's not exactly cooperating.

Does anyone have any suggestions for removing an oil pan that's all but super-glued on and has been for the last 30 years? I've removed all the bolts but the blasted pan still won't come off, i've also tried 'lightly' banging on it with a rubber mallet, prying it with a screwdriver (and several other tools).

Also regarding headers, any brand/model suggestions would be appreciated.

I just did mine. Hit it with the mallet. Also once removed think about the oil pump, it's old and new ones are cheap...Melling 55 or 55A with the steel shaft..and the new one peice fel-pro gasket...Use the Cloyes True Double Roller.

dynomax headers are a popular choice and offer good bang for the buck performance. I have the ceramic coated version, but i'm not overly impressed with the coating as i'm getting some small rust spots where the 4 pipes merge, being daily driven may be part of the problem

you can also go the headman or hooker or thorley route but since i've never used there product, i can comment.

have you thought side pipes? if you are going to buy headers, now is the time to get side pipes

:D Just wanted to welcome you to the Corvette Action Center.....Enjoy !!

Mmmmm side pipes........Are they legal in California? Also what's the cost difference in comparison (including any chasis wielding or whatever has to be done to mount them)?

tap a scraper or putty knife in the gap lightly and work your way along ,this should release the pan
