I'm putting a new headlight switch in my '66 and I must be missing something. When I insert the knob it's not catching on anything. I was expecting to stick it in in there and feel it snap into place but nothing. The knob and attached rod just goes in and comes right back out. No noticable clicks for parking light/headlight either. I've tried pressing the knob relaease in a few times to see if it was stuck to no avail. AmI missing something or is this a "Made in Mexico" unhappy ending? :mad

Maybe the knob release is sticking a little, don't believe you're missing anything, though. To check to see if it's sticking in, try pulling down or out on the knob release when you insert the light switch knob. If this don't work, I don't know . . . .

Maybe then it is a "Made in Mexico" problem .... .

Thanks Ron, I tried that to no avail. I took the switch out of the dash and installed the knob and it worked fine. Put it back in the dash, can't get it to catch again. Repeat two more times and then realize that it grabs if you you push it all the way in and then lift up on the knob. Somehow I don't think that's noted in the shop manual but I'm not complaining, it's nice to win one now and then. I also discvovered that one of the wires leading to my ignition switch was nearly broken in half and had partially melted the housing that holds all the wires that attach to the switch. Good advertisment for battery disconnect devices!

Terry sorry so late but I had the same problem with my replacement switch,it seems one the wires are on it puts downward pressure on the rear of the switch. If you just slightley reach under the dash and push the rear up it goes right in.

Remember this when removing the switch beside pushing in the catch you have to relive the pressure strain on the switch by pushing up a little

The other thing I learned along the way was that if you push the catch in before pulling the knob all the way out to the headlights on position it doesn't release. I also noticed that if you do that the button and spring bend when you pull the knob from the off position to headlights on. That can't be good. Always pull the knob to full on and then hit the button to release the knob.
