I located the problem of my non funtioning tach today...the mainshaft is stripped where the crossgear engages. My options are to rebuild it my self, by a stock replacement or put in a nice billet HEI, but I can't find one with a tach drive. Any suggestioins out there?

Replacement HEI units with Tach Drive are VERY expensive. Would be better off getting a normal HEI unit and installing a 75/76 electronic tach.

But the distributor is VERY easy to rebuild and very cheap. Had the same problem on my '73, so got a new shaft and swaped it in in a couple of hours.

A third option would be to find a good points type tach drive distributor and swap in a Pertronix electronic trigger. This would keep your tach drive and give you electronic ignition.

Bill, i have a stock gm hei dist in my 74. i found a elctronic tach on e-bay for $50.00 . the housings are an easy swap, and you add a couple of extra wires.

good luck.
