Help with HVAC no directivity

Im having trouble with my AC. I tried to fix it today to no avail. At first I thought it was the vaccuum line thats behind the intake manifold that gets pulled off when you move the intake manifold to do the oil pressure service.

I also tried to pull the #26 fuse in the pass. foot well, but that also didnt do anything. This is really frustrating me, does anybody have a definate solution to this? My blower is working fine, just I cant direct where it is going.

PS Im not paying any dealer to do the work cause it'll be in the hundreds of $ range, i'd rather sit and let the windows get foggy.
 
Check the positive post on your battery to see if it's leaking acid on your PCM and the HVAC vacuum line under the battery box. If you are the second owner the acid may have taken it's sweet time to eat holes in the vacuum line, normaly does not take long. You will have to remove the passenger side front wheel well, aft bottom side to look for damage. Good luck.

Just fixed mine last nite its been doing it for a year air coming from heater defrost and air vents . pull inner liner from behind right front wheel found broken vaccum line about a foot up under battery . believe it or not slipped larger line over both ends and super glued in place works like new now
 
Hey guys, I finally got around to pulling that fender liner off. Are the 2 AC lines the 1/8" plastic lines? Then they sort of go into a junction fitting that is underneath that canister looking thing? I pulled that off, while the motor and AC was running and there did not appear to be any vaccuum coming or going. I checked the runs and there was no breakage between the canister thing and to where the lines go into the wiring harnesses. The vents are still not moving.

PS, last weekend I removed the intake manifold to be sure that I had reattached that one vaccuum line at the rear of the manifold. Help, what am I doing wrong here?
 
Hey Eric try replaceing the line from the canister to where it runs into the harness, other problems i've seen are cracked vacuum canister and hole in vacuum line after it goes into wiring harness. GOOD LUCK
 
So I assume that there should be a vaccuum if I put my finger on the line that is going to the canister?

Where can I get a replacement vaccuum line? Is it a GM part of can I just use any vaccuum stuff?
 
Since you've verified the lines under the battery, here's the next step.
On the back of the manifold there is a big plastic fitting that plugs into the manifold it has the MAP sensor and a wiring harnnss/connector going into it. It also has a large diameter brake booster line plugged into this fitting. As part of this fitting there is a small vacuum port that points toward the passenger side. It has a 90 degree rubber vacuum connection coming out of it that points towards the firewall. The black plastic vacuum line, about 3/16" in diameter, plugs into this rubber connection.
You may not be able to 'see' it, but mabe feel it without removing intake manifold.

Thanks for the reply- I did remove the manifold to check that one. I am sure that I plugged it back in. I suppose it is possible that it might have come out again.... theres something not right here, cause I was getting no vaccuum all at the lines to the canister.
 
Are you having code problems? 0410, may be related to not having vaccum at air pump solenoid, don't recall whether '97 was equiped with solenoid.
All it takes is a small slice or kink to loose vacuum.
Mine was three small holes eaten in the lines under battery by acid.
 
Problem solved finally. I did some more poking around and I gave a tug on the line from under the wheel well area and then all the sudden it kept pulling and it came off. It definately looks like something was kinked and it was blocked almost 1.5 foot into the harness. I dont think it was acid. Curious how this happened though.

Anyway, I bought 5/32nd OD hard "emissions vaccuum line" hose from the auto parts store. Perfect diameter. It came in 3 foot lengths. Unfortunately 3 foot was about 4 inches too short. Ugh. So then I just took some of the hose I pulled out, and cut open one of those rubber vaccuum caps to make the splice. Probably fill it in with some sorta adhesive later to make it permanent. Ran the new line (took maybe 1 hour and alot of swearing and making a mess with coolant spewing everywhere from disconnecting a small coolant line) cause I had to move the intake manifold to access the vaccuum port.

So far so good...
