how much power?

howdy ho folks!
I was doin some thinking last night laying in bed, dreaming of the Vette. About how much more power would these following mods give me?

1. Long Tube Headers
2. Mass Air Flow Sensor
3. AS&M Billet Aluminum Throttle Body, 58 MM
4. SLP Claw Cold-Air intake
5. K&N Air filter
6. Flowmaster or Borla exhaust system
7. Lingenfelter Modified Intake Manifold

I was just wanting a estimate of what kind of power gain I would get from these mods? I know these mods are a broad subject and that specific items will vary but estimates would be nice. Thanks in advance.

i would say close to 50 hp?!?!? but the 58 mm tb would actually hurt it. go with a 52 mm tb unless you are making over 450 rwhp.

i'm sure others will chime in and give you a more definate #.

10-catback
probably 20-25 altogether

MAF screens removed, a couple hp.
K&N in the Cold air intake- probably ~10 but this is at higher rpms where you may not feel it (makes a difference in traps, not ETs)

58mm TB-nothing, you dont need it until you go bigger Cubes. A 52 may help a little, but then only if you open up the intake plenum and runners and if you put the Accel Manifold on.

Accel Manifold- 10-20Hp, again depending on what else is opened up when you put it on.

Now this addition is not linear, its not like ricers who add 5hp for each sticker to come up with 500hp. This stuff is dependent on each other.

Since you're doing all that, may as well go all the way and put a good heads/cam package in there!

Hyperchip=20hp
Flowmasters=~20-30hp
Total=60-70hp
Is this optimistic? I think all are done on mine (didn't check the MAF screens, leave well enough alone $700) and mine seems to pull like a bastard!

I bought a used MAF from a Vette' junk yard last year and pulled the screens off. I used it before the screens were off and it was fine, but after I pulled the screens off, the idle was kind of "choppy" so I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes, those expectations are realistic, but the heads and stock cam are pretty restricting.

The 20 from Hyperchip is pure BS though. The way to gain results isn't from a mass produced chip but from a custom burned chip. Contact Jeff, moderator of the C4 mods forum for some more info on a custom burned chip.

You wouldnt get 20hp from a hypertech on any day, and you definitely dont get 20-30hp from a new catback exhaust unless you had a 1" pipe on there to begin with.

And people must UNDERSTAND that you dont add HP linearly, so while a component may give 10hp, 5 components that add 10hp wont necessarily give you 50hp.

Right! That's why you have to start from the front at the air filter and work your way back to the mufflers. I do believe that the catback systems will give you similar results in terms of a HP gain. It depends how much you're willing to spend and what you want to do with the catback. But beware that the high performance mufflers do weigh significantly more than the stock ones, at least that was in my case.

The one mod that I really could feel better after I did was the open air filter lid. It took me about 15 minutes to do and I could feel a better throttle response.

Another mod you may consider is the air foil. Some people will question if it works or not, but I think it's good for something and it's quite cheap. You can get them for $30 on eBay. It comes with the bolt and a new gasket for the throttle body cover.

It's all those mods working in conjunction that will yield you the advertised results.

Don't do the Hyperchip thing, there are better and less expensive ways of getting a performance chip. All those mass produced performance chips do is turn your fans on earlier. Is that worth $200? No way.

So realisticly speaking, If i was to do these things i could look for a power gain of anywhere from 25 HP to 50 HP? That would sound about right? Nobody said anything about headers though. Arent headers susposed to be a great way to get more power?That was my inclination about most headers, minus the "shorty" headers. Im not out to get the fasest car but for some smaller mods like these i think they would be worth it. Heads and Cam would definatly be in my range of mods i would like to do. About how much would they run me? I thought they were kinda expensive. Thanks for the response.

I noted above that headers give about 15Hp.

I need to know what year you have to recommend anything else, as well as your longterm power goals.
