Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

I guess my back is against the wall....

Sounds like that chevelle is almost as fun to drive as the camaro.

How is the size of the Throttle body determined??? I know I have more cubes, and some good intake parts, but how is it really determined.

Headers are a must, just couldn't swing those and the rest of the exhaust. Oh well, just gives me more to look forward to. Any suggestions as far as exhaust systems go anyone?

Its the ole air in air out thing again...The bigger TB will improve mid range and top end without much loss of bottom end. The 52mm is like 750+ cfm compared to about 600cfm for the 48mm.

As far as exhaust is concerned , there are many options , prices and claims. Since I have the TPIS headers and Y pipe , 3", I went with the rest of their's. Its a 3 1/2 " into two 3''pipes and into 3" Flowmasters. The cat is gutted also. I plan to make my own cat replacement with 3 1/2" oval, like the inlet and outlet ends. The whole system ,TPIS, is about $1350. Thats coated headers and all. Most of the descent cat backs Ive seen are $500 to $700. You want no less than 2 1/2. Be patient and choose wisely.

The only thing I was looking at is if you increase the size of the openings dont you decrease the air velocity in. And the other way, if you decrease the size of the opening, you increase the velocity in. That is the way I think about it with current and resistance in circuits, and an even better analogy is water through a hose. If you just have the open end you will get volume, but when you put the nozzle on and push the water through a smaller hole, you get a fast stream. I guess I am getting hung on on what exactly will get more air into the engine. I should probably stop thinking and just start doing.

As far as exhaust goes I didn't know TPIS offered a complete setup. What kind of setup can I run if I do not have a main cat. I am in the process of removing the air pump, so I was under the impression I couldn't have a main cat, because it would clog if the air pump isn't pumping air in to burn the excess gases. Is this true? Is there a place that would make a straight through cat, or just a pipe that I could put on in place so the rest of the system would bolt up fine?

Thanks

I don't think you'll find a shop to make that straight pipe for you because of the penalties for tampering with emissions devices.

Check out the TPIS website, they do offer a modified Flowmaster exhaust system. I have seen the exhaust system in person and it is a nicer looking system than the regular Flowmaster system.

I think TPIS headers with their Flowmaster system will get you 50 extra horsepower with your new setup.

I hear the Borla Stinger system is also a nice flowing system. It was just recently introduced to our C4's last year.

They'll make them, they just wont install them. For all there knowledge the car is just for "off road use" ;)

Craig,

You're definitely going to have to do a total write up on the specs of the car. I mean specs on everything that you did so others could follow your formula that looks to be successful.

You know, for those times when we get the threads like "how can I get more power?" threads...

From what I have heard it runs really well. Once I can get this flat spot on my car fixed shifting into third, I want to give him a run and see how I fair.

Well edmond, I think the word everyone should know is STROKER.

Like I mentioned before, I expected more pull down low then what I have now. But I have to remember that the car was fast before, it just ran out of gas at 70 mph or so. It does pull hard out of the hole, but what I noticed most of all is how hard it pulls after 70. I mean I was cruizing along at 65, nailed it and just like that I see 110. Now I didn't want to get on it that hard, but the speedo was jumping by 4's all the way to 110. I haven't really beat on it yet because it is new. I probably have nailed it three times. Once from a roll, and it broke the wheels loose no problem. Once was a kick down from 25, and she kicked sideways, and I almost rear ended the car in front of me, I totally didn't expect the acceleration. The last was the kick down from 65.

Justin, you might keep with me to 40 or so, but after that all hell breaks loose. I cant wait for those headers:D

I understand what you are saying about the velocity. Its like water pumps, industrial type, some are made for pressure and some for volume. If you increase the inlet and outlet size , you can decrease the pressure and how far it can push that volume. But, if you are not at your potential to begin with , your only going to make it more efficent by the increases. More work will be performed.
I'm not saying you have to do this , just a suggestion. Hunt around for a Dana 44 too, with a 3.07. You'll reeeeally like the new setup.:D

Well hopefully in the near future I will have the funds to play around with some parts. I know the headers and exhaust is a must, but I am going to experiment with TB's.

Dave, if you find a D44, that you think I might be interested in let me know. I have been thinking of doing a gear swap, but probably wont go much higher then a 3.07 to 1 ratio.

Just wait till I get a procharger or go H/C/I, and I won't go with a little baby cam like you did :D.

I didn't consider that to be a baby cam. It is pretty close to the spec of the ZZ9 or LT4 HOT CAM. I want to say it is 224 228 at .5 in of lift. Now the duration is only 112 degrees I believe. I will get the actual reciept out if you need it. Actually it has left me with good low and mid range torque, and also high HP. I expect you will still be sucking hind tit when I have the headers, TB, gears, and computer tuning, even with a procharger. :)

So how fast can ya push that thing?? You know it wont take to much for ur tranny to start slipping, and ur differential to start busting teeth. With all that "low end torque" ;LOL

And while you guys argue over whose Vette is faster I'll be blowing you both outta the water!:lou

really..............:confused My vette doesn't do that good in water, perhaps we could get a run on the road.:)

Yeah I'm just giving Craig a bunch of sh!t. I am glad he got it back and it is pretty quick. It just gives me more insentive to make mine faster. I'm not trying getting into a ****ing match with anybody...

Hehehe cool. I was just letting ya know where I stood.

Yes we could run on the road. ;)
