What is the best shock absorber for a 94 LT1? BESIDES Bilstein?

Paul

I replaced my stock Bilsteins with KYBs and couldn't be happier. I now can keep filling in my teeth and my kidneys aren't bruised! :D Much smoother ride and it still handles great. I think I ordered them from Tire Rack and put them on myself with no problem.

KYBs seem to be a popular replacement. Others I hear about are Koni, but I think they are in the same price range as the Bilstein.

Hi Tom. Off topic.

I took your advice and bought the aircraft stripper. I was VERY concerned because I used to work with this deadly stuff in the airline business. Co I called a few minutes ago and asked about it hurting the rubber. The technician told me to mask off the rubber with metal take and wash it off the rubber as soon as possible. He said it won't the rubber unless you keep it on too long.

There's no WAY I can have the rubber and the valve stems removed so I have to do it on vehicle. Also, I am going to put a heavy duty cloth painter's drop cloth on the car as this is a spray. But he told me there is a automotive supply house near me and they sell it in gel form quarts which is what I really wanted in the first place. I also bought the mother's ball and compound but it will not even be a match for the original poly. But I have seen aluminum wheel cleaned with that stuff and they look newer than new. I do not think I want to re-poly after cleaning them though, I'd rather keep them clean by hand. OR, I could use scotch bright pads on a mandrel with my 90 grinder.

"BEST" is a real toughie to answer because it depends on what your intentions are.

KYBs are excellent for street use and, in fact, I installed a set on the 86 I once owned and loved them. However, they wouldn't be the BEST choice for a guy who likes to hang it our on a road course.

So, like so many other things, (which cam should I install, which tires, which cylinder heads, etc., etc) it depends.

Just my thoughts.
