ok...I have said every word I know trying to get the yoke in the tail end of the TKO600.....the seal around the splined output shaft of the tranny doesn't make it any easier....does anyone have experience of how to get that yoke into the tranny without lots of words spewing from my mouth??????

Right Yoke?

I had no problems with my install and I also switched to a 9" rear which made a difference in the driveshaft but not in the yoke, just the length. You removed the grease cover from the spline, it should be nothing more than a little light oil, line the spline up and push it in until you have enough clearance to pull it back and bolt it up to the rear yoke. Without seeing it, I'd have to say give Jeff or Scott a call first thing tomorrow. Did you count and measure the splines and shaft, no matter what the rear, the front yoke should be the same. Fire off a couple pictures while you're at a stand still, maybe we can see something you're overlooking.

I measured the OD of the yoke...it is 1.685"....I measured the inner diameter of the yoke, measuring at the tips not at the root of the splines and it was about 1.23" give or take....the yoke and the TKO600 have 31 splines....

My Eyes Deceiving me?

It "almost" looks as though you have a protective cover on the end shaft of the tail stock in the trans. The teeth should be the male or protruding side on the trans and the yoke should be the female that slides over it once lined up. Did you try to remove the piece inside the seal with needle nose pliers gently to see if it's a cover of some sort? There's NO way the picture of the yoke in the box has anything to slip over, they look as though they are going to simply butt up against each other with alignment unless you you remove that piece inside the seal which it "looks" like at that point, the yoke would replace. See what I mean in the first two pictures, there's nothing for the yoke to slip on, the splines are already covered.

Got To Be Something Stupid

I wish I had kept my paperwork, but your pitures are a big help. When I did my install, I had to wait until I had the 9" all set up so they could make the driveshaft the correct length for that application and weld the right yoke on it instead of the stock GM rear yoke but the front yoke should have no bearing on that, just the length and the rear yoke. I'm "almost" positive the front yokes are all 31 spline and it may be a protective cover on it. (Fingers crossed)

mystery solved....there is a plug over the output shaft spline...once I pulled it out...the yoke slid right in no problem!!!! now back to work!!!!!

That's My Boy!

It was so simple I actually was sitting here doubting myself which is why I asked you for the pictures. I'd have hated having to drive to your place with a foot of snow on the ground when using a little of the very little memory I have sometimes works. Now if you like, you can IM me and confess all your sins that you committed by cursing before you posted the problem. When I'm not doing my part time marriage counciling on the weekends or drinking or taking black market drugs, I'm a self proclaimed man of the "cloth". We'll have a :beer at BG or Carlisle and all will be forgiven my Brother. Or a little something in the envelope would be appreciated.;)

more likely to get a little :beer at Carlisle.....having worked on these cars you know the money pit that they become.....I did a little adding the other day....motor turned into 383 stroker.....Myer front end.....Myer rear end.....Tremec tranny....McLeod scattershield, pressure plate and clutch....Wise Guy seats (not covered yet)....oh my.....don't look back...keep moving forward and damn the torpedoes (or in my case the ex-wife, by the way only 22 months of freedom fund payments to go, then we will be having a HUGE party, perhaps I should buy myself a '67 Vert 427....or a 2008 Z06 as a gift to myself to celebrate the glorious day!!!).

Party......Did Somebody Say Party?

I"M IN!!! I have never done any adding for the cost of what I want, need, have to have at the time. Trucks beyond the necessary equipment, Harley's quads, the 62, car & bike trailers with all the extra's. I simply look at how much it's going to cost THIS time to get it back on the road, etc. That and enough :beer $$$ is all I need.
