Is it really worth beefing up the engine?

Bentham's Law - Fun is inversely proportional to fuel economy.
That might just make it into my signature at some point! Along with "My lugnuts require more torque than your ricer produces."

Be my guest! It was coined by a friend of mine - Peter Jeremy Bentham - who has many large cars, and has recently finished building his GT40 replica. He's now in his early sixties, but acts like a kid ;-)

Red is the only color!

Good choice and a red vette goes faster Mate!

Electronic cutouts are way funner!

VIG! Way cool to see ya back :beer :r

I know everyones PO'd at Badass, but he's just speaking his mind, however un PC, and I don't condone that sort of thing personally. But what I have noticed, and what might have him slightly irritated is all the speculation over Kiwi's car.

It's great to daydream and hypothisize, (and I know you're gonna get your car Adrian) but considering some of your statements, it does give one pause and maybe a little frustration wondering what you're really gonna do with the Vette. No sense in modifying it if you don't wanna go really fast(er), race, be LOUD, or boil the tires :(

As has been said, drive it, then choose what you might wanna do. Without thousands in mods you'll never mess in ANY way with ANY 11 sec. car :beer And the car will perform nicely stock ;)

Well, yeah! That's exactly where I came in - wondering if it was worth it. Now, of course, it's obvious that I shouldn't decide until I actually have the car.

Maybe I'm just getting excited that after 21 years of longing, I'm within 2 years of actually managing to get one :-)

Wow...I really didn't mean to upset anyone, I'm sorry if I did. I just meant that the car is built for speed to begin with, like any European sports car, but we have the advantage because it's still a Chevy. We have a multitude of mods we can do from a simple intake change to major engine mods, nitrous or twin turbos. I'm sorry if I was out of line.

K&N

Easy gets it, Kiwi, I swear by the K&N on my 10 sec vette. Also, I dumped the 3:07 rear end for a Richmond 3:75. Still streetable (almost 11 mpg), but very fast on the track :-)

Vig, seeing your sig again brought an instant :D to my face. Good to see you back.:w

Kiwi

First off do all of the free mods.

How are you smog laws? Do you have to have the Cat? Either way try this.
Have a new front Y pipe made out of 3¨ SS and have it terminated with a flange where the front of the Cat will be. In Euro-land this cost about $50. Now get a set of KBD Targa mufflers >$200 and have a new rear Y pipe made up that will connect to the flange on the front Y pipe another $50. Total cost >$300 and a serious kick in the butt feel and sound

If you have to pass Smog have a matching flange made for the front of the Cat on the original exhaust system. When it is time for the inspection stick on the original exhaust system long enough to pass the test and change back to the KBDs as soon as you get home. With this setup it will take you less than 20 min. to swap the exhaust system as there are only 5 bolts that need to be removed.

For the price of a set of gaskets you can pull the intake and clean it up with a die grinder.

If the bucks are available nothing will give your butt dyno more fun than a deeper rear end. If your car is an Auto 3.08s are all you need. With a manual you can go a lot deeper but remember tall gears tend to be noisy.

Ken or Moonunit can tell you how much it will cost to eat 11 second ricers but I am going to guess that it is over $10K.

Right now, we can take cats off, but they are talking about making it compulsory to have a cat if the car was manufactured with it. I suspect that a lot of folk will do what you describe.
