I'd be happy to share what I know; most of it came from the fine folks here anyway...

from click here for 80 81 turbo 301 big blocksBy popular demand, here are the engine electrical and vacuum diagrams for the 1980 and 1981 turbo T/A and Formula. Apparently these are quite rare on the internet, so if you're looking for them, look no further!
Hey Tech Dudes, I have a 79 Redbird code W 301 engine with a 4bbl that is bad. I looked at a 301 at a salvage yard Saturday, and the guy said it is out of a 79 Firebird, has a 2bbl carb on it, and the dipstick is at the back of the motor. The one in the car is on the side of the block. Either someone had changed the engine and I have something other than a 301, or is there a difference in the code W and Y engines other than intake manifolds?

yeah i'd appreciate that cause i'm about to buy some mod parts big mouth runners ect from another guy that has a mini ram setup. just interested in the non dollar upgrades you were talking about....
thanks maybe we can hook up one weekend soon so you can point that stuff out and maybe give me some tricks that you learned. I'd be much obliged couple mods simple mods i think i can break a 13 sec run
Watch out for the little four bangers...most of them are poser cars (dressed-up econo-boxes), but given racebred ones like the Lancer and WRX, they have displacement to power ratios that will make any v-8 motorhead cry.
