Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

just curious

The general consensus is you may, I repeat MAY see a slight HP increase at high rpm's with an air foil, but you will get no where near the advertised HP that the catalogs claim. You're better off to get a K&N air filter and open air box lid.

Not worth spending one penny. The items that claim to add 5HP or whatever for $39.95 or some other small sum are basically worthless.

The K&N filter and cutting the opening in the lid is a good start. Add a high-flowing cat back exhaust to get the gasses out. These two items can give you 10-15 HP and a about twice that in torque at the upper RPM ranges.

Changing gears in the differential will give you the biggest SOTP increase in power. Going to 3.45 or even 3.70 or so makes a tremendous difference in the rate of acceleration but does not really hurt overall fuel economy and you may only lose about 10 MPH on the top end.

This has been thrown around before. I say that it is your car and do what you wish. I have not seen any tests that say this product slows the car down. It is a few pennies. You may be able to see the gains on a dyno, but probably never in the seat of the pants.

Do what you want with your car, personally I have one, and dont think I would take it off. To corvette owners, modifiying our cars in our own ways add personality to the cars. I am proud of the little things I have done to my car, and feel the car is better off for those.

I bought one a long time ago as it seemed like a good idea at the time - probably was a waste of money. Before and after dyno runs would drive the cost of buying one out of sight for the 'hp' gain - if there is one. So, who really knows what the gain is.

I thought I felt a better part throttle response but that may have been wishful thinking on my part.

I'm still using it as it fits into the hose and there isn't any need to take it out. If I every upgrade throttle body sizes, it will have to go as it will not match the bigger throttle bodies and I don't think anyone sells an "air foil" designed for the bigger TB's. Maybe that is a hint about the effectiveness of air foils.

here is my diagnosis to this part.

in front of the TB the air flow creates heavy turbulance. the air goes from a high pressure to a lower pressure just in front of the TB then back to high pressure. with that air being stagnant then getting sucked in at a rapid rate of speed, the air acts like ping pong balls in your intake. if you put the ping pong balls in a 6" tube and roll 100 of them in 1 direction then put a big stick in the way you see what happens. now take a smooth edge and do the same thing and the ping pong balls with fit into place with out getting all jammed up. this is the same thing that happens right in front of the TB but on a much quicker more pliable scale. so in that respect YES it does help. How much? 5 hp at the MOST. it's not one of those mods you buy to MAKE hp, it's one of those mods you buy to compliment the other mods already done to the car. Remember, in order to make more HP you need to get the air in and out much more quicker and this mod helps that process.

so take it for what it's worth.

ps: yes I have one

Thanks guy i was curious to hear what everyone had to say about it. I considered getting just for the reason that i see it everywhere and figured it might work. But i think ill leave it be for now. Thanks

My BBK 52mm TB has one pre-molded/cast/machined. It is not removeable but rather part of the TB. FWIW

There are two products out there, one bieng an air foil, the other I have seen called an inlet fairing or something like that. They both do the same thing.

However like Hrtbeat1 said in the larger throttle bodies the air foil is already molded into the front, so it has to do something. WHy else would they include it on larger throttle bodies?
