Hi everyone, im in the market for a 97-99 Vette. Im looking to buy one ASAP and hopefully have it within 3 months. I'm still an optometry student and I have an approximate price range of 13-16K. Obviously the car im looking for will have high mileage for the price.

Colors: dont care much for nassau blue, or pewter
Options: MN6 preferred, but not a necessity.

My dream car: high mileage, black 99 C5, HUD, MN6.

I spoke to one wholesaler here in Houston, he purchased the exact same vehicle for 14K and hes reselling it for 20K. *rant*

Bottom line price!

The dealer must have picked it up from another dealer on a trade. The price for the mileage really is not that bad so it tends to tell me something.

Like there is something going on that you cannot see. Now if you talk him down to $18,000 then you would have to expect to be putting some serious money into it.

Pull a car-fax before you do anything. What he is asking is below or at wholesale and when you add all of the bull and profit nothing adds up.

If you cannot afford to pick up a better C5, buy a Yugo until you can.

Just my opinion and l know the prices of used vettes.

interesting, what year??

worst case scenario is i have to wait ONE more summer, LOL and pick it up for cheap.

warning warning warning!!!!!!!!

Cheap is not alway's the smartest way to go if problems surface. You can have a string of bad luck with low or high mileage C5's that would knock your socks off.

There was thread today where a guy had over $9000 in repairs and decided to leave it to rust rather put another penny into it.

This is not a vehicle that is cheap to repair unless you compare it to a Ferarri and l don't care how good a mechanic you are or l should say think you are.

We have some really talented mechanics here and they can handle any problem but you sound like you are not a mechanic.

go on "autotrader.com" serch used autos, make> chevrolet, model> corvette within 50 miles of zip> 08094,2c5's at 18k will be in there.1 private,1 at at a used car lot

I guess that is a good price. If you like black, get it. Its the chance everyone takes when buying a used car.
Got to look at the car first and Carfax. Some time Carfax doesn't tell the whole story.

Look under the hood to see anything has been fixed, replace. Any welded joint that doesn't look factory. If you look closely, you can tell the car has been in an accident. Does the hood line up with the fender? sit down low and look at the seams between body parts, door to fender, hood to fender... If any of those doesn't aligned, determine if it is from factor installation or from accident fixed. You can pretty much tell there is a new paint job no matter how good the paint job was. Buy one of those mirrow that can look from the bottom (any auto part store sell them) look under the seats at the metal parts if it has a lot of rust, the car was flooded.
The Engine, that an 80K miles car... any leaks? can it be fixed? How much will it set you back?...
Do you know how to work on cars?

For the people that only buy cars and have grease monkey to do their maintenance, go ahead and buy more expensive car (never seen rain). As for me, why should I buy a low miles Corvette at a higher price then take it home and park in the garage only to drive on nice sunny day? if I have that kind of time and money, I would of bought a brand new Corvette already.
