Well, I'm ready to order mufflers. All I know is that I want them quiet at highway speeds. I cruise at about 1800-1900 rpm in my '86 L98 automatic coupe. I think stainless look outstanding, {a guy in town got some with tips incorporated for his '91, really nice, from Ebay, I think}. What are the best deals out there, value wise.

Hard to say if you demand they be quiet. I personally like Power Effects, which you can turn the sound up or down from a bit louder than stock to screaming.

Flowmasters are probably the cheapest, but are notorious for resonance problems.

Your best bet is to find a vette club in your area, and listen to everyone's exhausts.

I heard magnaflows sound great on the l98 and are not too loud. I have no personal experience w/ them though.

I second Magnaflow

I plan to order a pair of the magnaflows for my 92 LT1 in the next week or so. They are absolutely the nicest looking mufflers I have seen and I hear there is little resonance with them. The magnaflows are a true dual outlet which means the exhaust flows out of both dual pipes on each side. The finish is also awesome. Stainless steel mirror finish w/ 4" round ss tips. Check out their website at magnaflow.com. I have done a lot of extensive research on these mufflers and found the best price at a place called bigexhaust.com

Thanks to all, and to Dave for the place to shop.

A hundred and thiry four bucks, Canadian, for stock replacement Maeremonts. A hundred and thirty seven Canadian for Hooker Aero Chambers. Not a scrap of stainless in them babies. Magnaflows look good. Need to be quiet though.

mufflers

If your gonna buy mufflers, take nothing other than the best.
you need magnaflow, the only time she'll scream for you is when
you have her wide open. As long as your being good to her she'll
keep nice and qiuet, not quiet quiet, but enough to make them wonder. If you have not heard them on a vette,YOU NEED TO!
I have them on mine, and will never go to anything else

I changed my stocks for the Walker Ultraflo's but they were way too loud. After 100 mi. I swapped them for Flowmaster delta force 50's which are great. They come in stainless but are not polished. You will need tips for sure.

Happy hunting.

With MagnaFlows you just can´t go wrong!

It´s been a year now since I got mines; first they where in my 91 L98 and now in the LT1 and there´s really a big difference. They sound-perform greate! You can feel the difference. In the LT1 I had some resonance but it went off with a crossover balance tube.

Like 81LT4 says If you don´t step on it, they just don´t speak loud otherwise they scare people around you!

mufflers

Give me a week and I'll recommend you change the whole thing out for the Power Effects system.

Ordered Hooker Aeroflows with stainless steel tips. I needed a true muffler, and not a straight through design like the Magnaflows because I don't have cats, and it gets pretty loud. I hope I like the sound. Some say the Aeroflows are too quiet, but without cats that probably sounds like the amount of noise reduction I need. Hope I like them.
