Need Underhood Light Connector

I got the "Underhood Lamp Switch" kit from Mid America, that lets you
turn off the Hood Lamps while the hood is up to save your battery.
It's "almost" right. Unfortunately it changes the lamp wiring from parallel
to series - both lights are now in series, providing only half the light,
and if one lamp is out - they're both off.
A slight change would fix that problem - use a dpdt switch, and connect
the harness to both hood lamp feeds.
But I can't locate a source for the additional connector I need.
It's the same as the present connector attached to the end of the
lamp's end of the harness. delco part no 12015792.
Dealer can't get it (he can get a complete hew harness for $50), but
not just the connector. No luck at NAPA either.
Any suggestions ?

I am not sure what the MidAmerica kit looks like or what components it includes but I did my own.

I cut one wire going to the underhood fuse and put the switch in-line there. It cuts the power without changing the way the lights operate. Perhaps you can use the MidAmerica kit the same way or modify it.

Fear my "l33t" MSPaint Skills.... :D :D

Here's the wiring diagram from my '89. Why not put a SPST switch on the Source Orange wire?

just a thought...:Steer

Thanks ! Great ideas guys.
I'm going to look for those wires and see to it.
Sometimes it's easier to do it yourself than buy a kit.

Underhood Lights

Excellent Ideas - can you guys tell me what fuse goes on those?
Mine are missing. I think I know where they go - but some help on that would be appreciated too!

I wouldn't have a clue on a '96. Maybe someone that has one can jump in here and tell ya. ;shrug

The fuse on a 96 is in the nose, just below or slightly behind the driver's side turnsignal.

If you stand next to the driver's side front wheel, and reach down into the area just ahead of the wheel, the single-fuse holder is right there by the turn signal closest to the wheel. The fuse is red (10amp)

Hope that helps!

Found it - Thanks!

The fuse was inside. But the two plugs that sit on top of the turn signal housings were unplugged. Plugged those in and now everything works.

It does look like a simple job to put a switch on the wire before it gets to the fuse.

I'll leave things unplugged until I can add a switch.

Thanks again!

Call this company with your part number of the connector.
They are the Dephi out let that handles small quanity of connector orders.
They were formally called Packard Electric who mad the connector and made the wiring harness.
