I believe that its not just heat that causes the paint to lift but UV exposure over time and moisture. Neither of which is cured by the oven. Your car your call.

well i have stripped the rear area--tops of fenders seemed to come off easy and by the fuel door-right side has adheared well --going to rebake this weekend in its stripped stage before putting any thing on it--just want to be sure-think i may bake each stage just to be sure.

Good idea.Did you end up stripping chemically or manually with a da sander? If you did it chemically its a real good idea to bake it.Also maybe try wiping it with some alcohol to help nuetralize the stripper

I Was Afraid To Use Chemical Strippers-so I Sanded It Off-including The Gel Coat That I Had Applied--i Stripped Just The Rear Section--
Paint Daddy-do You Agree With Bakeing Every Step As A Precaution?
Taking The Paint Off Was Sooo Hard After The Countless Hrs I Did In Getting It To The Place It Was--but Thats Life-now I Go From Here-it Will Be Back Soon.

I do think baking at every step is a good idea.Theres probably no need to bake the paint but it would be a good idea to bake after the primer just to see if it is going to come back before you paint.Good luck.I think it was a wise choice to manually strip it versus chemically.

hey paint daddy

what brand of polyester surfacer do you use or reccomend?
i was going to reuse gel coat but i know in the past you have reccomended otherwise.
the car has original panels and there has been no repairs to them--maybe i should not use gel coat-what do you think.

There a few diferent brands of poly surfacer. The two that come to mind are evercoat and marson. Both are equally good. The early versions are hard to sand .They are made by evercoat and called slicksand and featherfill. The most recent is called finishsand.Any paint store should carry one of the two.Let me know how the bake cycle goes.

well its saturday-

spent the day finishing da sanding to strip the rear area-then reapplied the ecklers spray gel coat-tomorrow i will take to my friends shop and run it in the oven again -just to make sure the gel coat is fully cured.
then a long boarding i go.

sunday

baked car again today to lock in the gel coat and to make absolutly sure it was cured-blocked out with 80 grit wet--then let sit out today in the sun-outside temp of 75 degrees--to let it get hot again after sanded and exposed--maybe im going overboard-but i definitly dont want to do it a 3erd time:upthumbs
i will check with the paint store tomorrow to see what primer/surfacer the rep wanted me to put on it-i forgot the one he said.

the primer/surfacer is (spayes/hexler) 5310 light grey-- im sure i butchered the name--well it is on and now it will get cooked again--just for precaution-

also had a nice argument with the paint store today:argue --turns out the rep decided his way of paying for materials was to buy the base coat paint only--i told them to keep there charity:booty :booty --if your not going to do as you offered then don't do anything--i considered that a slap in the face--as it turns out the friend who has the body shop i'm doing it at called the paint store then the owner of the store called --we had a discussion since he was there when the rep made the offer--they decided to pay for the materials again--i think my friend explained what this could do for his business not only with my friends shop but the great publicity i would give since i am a service manager at a Ford/Chrysler store and with the locals--not that i would go out of my way to gossip about it .;LOL

well i'll let you know when its done and back on the road:D

Thats BS.I would have been ****ed too.I thought you used Dupont on it the first time.If you did ,you should be using the same paint system from primer to clear.Spies Hecker is a good quality paint but shouldnt be mixed with other manufacturers products let alone another paint system.Spies hecker is along the same lines as Glasurit and Sikkens,European born and european quality.

i agree-that was what i stated----yes i did use complete dupont system from start to finish other than the gel coat-now they had me to mix two products-i hope they are correct in this -because if i have issues again they will wish they hadn,t had me do it. well iquess only time will tell.
