I changed the oil for the second time in my 08. It has 9k on it and I noticed what looked like small aluminum particles in the drain pan? Is a little normal or should I be concerned??

I found a small amount of fines on the end of the drain plug the first two times I changed mine but not much of anything the third .I change my oil at about 60% and my last change was in Dec with almost 20,000 miles.I would assume that what I found would be considered normal .

Silver in the pan and steel dust on the drain plug is pretty common on early oil changes. The drain plug will continue to pick up trash throughout the life of the engine. I tend to dump oil at 50% or 2X annually.

I have changed mine both times when it had more than 50% showing,I think 70% the first and 68% the second time. I am going to change it more often now. I am thinking 3-4 K. I only have 9K on the car so I am not worried about warranty, if it comes apart I will take it to the dealer. But that is a last resort.

I'm thinking :D You should be able to max out your oil changes to somewhere around 10-12,000 miles with 97% of life used up.I changed mine last time having driven 7000 miles and doing the math could have gone another 6000 miles.

I change my more often than recommended because I feel more comfortable .The weak link is the filter not the Mobil 1.

The fines I found we're more like grit .The oil darked some but Mobil 1 is a little darker even when new.

Keep us posted :thumb

I cut apart the Mobil 1 filter I took off. I found about 4 small shavings. I think I will run this oil about 1000 and change the filter and see what I get. Is the AC filter any better or as good as the Mobil 1?

That's the way I figure it also and I've been changing out just the oil filter every 3500 to 4000 miles on all my cars for years and years now and changing the oil out on the third filter change or between 10,000 and 12,000 miles. Mobil 1 has a lot of life in it and it ain't cheap, so I don't waste it.

I did this on my old '92 Vette and was happy with the results. At 11 years old in 2003 and with 103K miles on the engine, I had it opened up and it looked new inside. Ever wear surface was perfect and showed no wear. No, ridge in the cylinders. A fresh set of bearing and rings in standard size, a burnish of the cylinder walls and it went back together.

What brand filter do ya'll use?? I have been using Mobil 1 on my 08. A/C on everything else!

Either .Oddly it's hard to find Mobil 1 filters in my area .I bought a dozen AC filters and just keep 'em in stock. It's really hard to know who actually is the manufacture of the filters .

I'm using Fram filters , with the grip top. But, I'd love to switch to K&N. Just so inconvenient to get
Having read about Fram filters on all 63 corvette forums (;)) they generally are held in very low esteem .I just figured that if that many people gave something bad licks there might be something to it .Just something to sleep on .:D

Well, then I wont be using them anymore!! Thank you :thumb

Talked to a Purolator rep last fall. I remember he said they also manufacture Toyota Motorcraft Mopar brands there may be some more I'll have to look for my notes. Additionally any of the major brands meet OE filter requirement for warranty.:beer

I use K&N for quality and ease of installation - no wrench needed.

I like Mobil 1 filters, use them on everything that I run Mobil 1 oil in which is 3 different vehicles. From what I have read the filter paper is specifically designed for synthetic oil.

FWIW, I'm still using the AC filters. Given the results I have seen, they work just fine.

I use the AC PF48. It's what was on the car from Bowling Green. I bought 6 for $25 from my local dealer. What does everyone else pay for their filters? I chose the factory filter just in case I had a warranty issue. Now that it's beyond my original factory warrany, I continue to use the ACDelco filters.:thumb
