I was told that since I have to replace the opti spark on my '94, I am better off buying a vented '95 or up version.

Any thoughts on if this is recommended?

i used a 92 base with a 96 vented cap. works fine. i ran a hose from the vent around inside the finder and put a fuel filter on it. one of those clear plastic jobs from auto zone. i figure it will let it breath and trap any water. been about a year now with no problems. robert

Question

Has anyone ever just ditched the optispark, and put on a different type of ignition system??? Is this a crazy idea??

I did the same as robert with my opti, works fine after a little over a year at least the last time I ran it. Too much salt on the roads to run now. Don't know about conversion.:beer

How to detect a faulty Opti Spark

How exactly can I tell if my opti spark is actually defective?

Eractic idling is the most noticable issue from the engine.

My drop down gear is not working anymore ( 4 speed automatic )and neither is the ASR.

I have had my local mechanic take the readings off of the computer and they have replaced the ECM and TPS, however the car is still running poorly.

Any thoughts?
'94 coupe, auto, with 80,000 miles.
