Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Please share a trick, tip, short cut to help restore or maintain our 53 to 67 vettes

If anyone is trying to repaint or rechrome small parts, knobs, insert panels etc. They should be stripped to bare substrate. A safe solution is to soak ( submerge ) them in 409 cleaner. Strong stuff!!!!! After a few days the chrome will just about fall off. Paint too. This does less damage than other chemicals. NEVER clean your dash or interior with this stuff.

John Z... We love thee

John Z you are a credit & treasure to the Corvette hobby.

Just some of the stuff you pick up after 40+ years in the OEM industry and in the hobby - most of it I learned from others over the years. When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time hanging around a local "Mom-and-Pop" independent garage, and one of the many "rules" the old gentleman mechanic taught me as he showed me the ropes was that a good mechanic never puts his tools away dirty; he wiped every tool off before it went back in the drawer, and I never forgot that "rule". He never had to "hunt" for the right tool, either. Every day should be a learning experience of some kind, or you wasted the day :D
