Sad Split Window in Car Craft

I know I can't afford another one but... is it a convertible or a coupe?

This one is a vert. in rough shape but all the pieces are there.
not a numbers match, so it would be a fun car to redo.

Larry,

You should have been a psychologist. :upthumbs
Bob believe it or not I had to take a psychology course as part of a negotiating course I took for sales training. You know I am just thinking about your car sitting for so long untouched. How many folks did you have visiting you to convince you to sell it to them.

Bob is living proof some of them do get restored

You haven't read any of my rants about "numbers match" or you wouldn't have said that! :L

Dang. A vert. I'll bet there's a whole buncha VetteHunters on their way to Texas right now. I wish... nope, scrap that. Mortgage first, fun later. :cry

The difference here was that I was serious when I said "someday". Not everyone is serious. ;)

Well I guess I can be considered one of those crazy people. I got my vette and used it as a daily driver (it was very rough to begin with) it needed lots of work and I thought I was going to restore it. Well a wife came along then kids, some tough times and the vette just sat. First in a garage and unfortunately eventually outside for years. People came around and asked to buy it and I said no thanks and they thought I was a nutcake for leaving it sit instead of taking the money. Well about 30 years later I have more time, more money and a little more ability. The kids are older (they even help work on the car) and this old vette is slowly but surely being brought back to the glory it deserves.

Even though I am sad that I let it deteriorate to such a sorry condition I am very happy that I did hold on to my dream and now am working to make that dream reality.

So keep in mind when you see these rotting cars, someone’s dreams are probably attached and some of them do come true.

Last summer, after 10 years of asking, my uncle finally sold me his 65 coupe. It had been sitting in his shop for over 25 years.

These people are crazy. Who lets their car sit and rot to the point where it makes you sick to look at? I am hoping that once I pay off my student loans that I can pick up a car here and there to fix up. Maybe not full restorations, but get these cars into a driveable condition. I have already done it for one all while being in school. As the guy on one of those car shows says "don't crush them, restore them".

Count me as one of these crazy people. I bought my ’66 driver with terrible paint and with the idea and sincere intention to restore/modify it in the near future. About the time I was about to order a ZZ502 to replace my 327, I met my wife to be, and now I have two kids. The car will have to wait a long time for some serious attention, but I enjoy driving it, the little I get to, and planning its resurrection, many of the ideas based on the inspiring projects I read about here, especially the 67HEAVEN project. My car may or may not get restored/modified based on what life brings. If it stops running, it may have to sit indefinitely or be stored. Then I will just have to enjoy looking at it. Whatever its condition, I will never feel compelled to sell it to someone who thinks they can give it a better home (since obviously I do not care enough to keep it up to their standard). Also, I hope my car has not sickened anybody and that no posses come looking to beat me up. Like I said, I am crazy …… about my car. Happy Holidays!

The above posts about procrastinators are far too kind.

THEY ARE CRAZY!

I can't stand to even talk to them anymore. I won't beg those lunatic owners to act. Life is too short to mess with such nuts, and there are still plenty of other cars out there to be restored.
I agree with you, Jerry. There are MANY such nuts in and around where I live who have cars under tarps, in sheds, hidden in the woods, etc.

NOBODY will ever be able to buy them. They just "want them"....like to "have them around". I learned decades ago that it's just a waste of time trying to deal with them. AND, it's not just Corvettes, it can be old Fords, Mopars, muscle cars, "tri five" Chevys, etc. Chuck

Not talking about somebody like you. You can actually DRIVE your Corvette. :) You don't have to have a beautifully restored midyear in my book to be called an enthusiast.

I'm talking about cars that have been sitting for 20-30 YEARS. There's a 63 FI roadster sitting in the driveway of a house about 2 miles from me. I moved up to this area in 1974. The car was sitting in the same place, under the same tarp then. It's still there. I met the guy....years ago. He's gonna "restore it".

There's a 58 and an 62 sitting in the woods down by the local grass strip airport. They've been sitting there for 20+ years. I know the guy that owns them. Saw him a few weeks ago. He's retired now....for the past 5 years or so. The cars are still sitting, rotting in the woods.

There's a 2 owner 61 that's been sitting in and around a local town for decades. It's an original car. Been sitting outside SO long that 10 or so years ago, the frame was rusted in half. It hasn't gotten any better.

I could go on. These cars aren't owned by "enthusiasts", they're "hoarders", who expect that their "investment" will continue to rise in value, when in reality, the values are heading toward the basement.....into "terminal parts car" territory. Chuck

Gees RJ, pains me to see an Ontario plate on that!!

Where in Ontario is it?

Here's the picture I was talking about originally.

Well allthough I personally dont know of any vettes neglected like that but case in particular disturbes me.About 16 years ago I lived in effingham IL there was a 69 bb pace car camaro sitting in front of what was a alleged house (read shack). My buddy took me over there too go have a look, well upon inpection it wasent bad yet but starting to show its age and getting a bit crumbly. My buddy said it has been sitting there since he was little.I remember looking at the odometer and recal it having less than 20,000 on it.Well anyway this guy about in his mid late 40s witha a 40oz in one hand a cigarette in the other told me in 4 words what to do.I replied that he was a deranged @#$* and went upon my way.As far as i know it may be there still and truthfully its recyled goods but it goes to show most of the people who hoard these cars need help id take the cash if I was them and go find a car like they had that runs or they can spend it on more beer and tv dinners. In short I just dont do buisness with fools it never does no good!!

Posted a O.T. on this one last week..very sad. I never see anyone outside..front yard is kept up and mowed..but have never been able to catch the owner outside. This one has been here since I was a kid..now 40 years old I would trade my 81' turn key for this one..+cash if need be..

Thanks for the links mike. Why don't you buy it and I'll drop by and help you take it apart for restoration. Everyone will tell you I'm kind of slow about putting them back together so you may not want my help there :L

Tom

Darn shame

That "woodpile" car is another tale of hoarding. I note it's in the Spokane, WA area. I'm from Montana-Helena and Missoula, and there are SEVERAL stories around there about losers hoarding something valuable once, dubious now. I well remember a '70 Chevelle SS 454 (red), lots of 55-57 Chevy's, various Mustangs, Camaro's and Impalas, some cool old Plymouths/Dodges, etc. These people are exactly what was described earlier-CRAZY. In my exuberant youth, I was chased off a few porches when I went around asking.

There's some old Harley's out there, too. I felt extremely lucky to get my "barn job" '62 Pan after 12 tears of frequent inquiry. Only after 1) His son-in-law wrecked 2 snowmobiles the old man gave him, 2) I promised to leave it original, and 3) he gets first chance to buy if I ever sell it. By the way, after 23 years in the barn-it fired on the 3rd kick and I was riding it on the 5th kick. Only a new (6-volt) battery, and rebuilt the hydraulic rear brake master cylinder to get it going, I have since done a proper resto exhaust and fresh tires. It's sweet.

I also note on that other (CF) web site-those guys get kinda mean with each other. I'm happy to be here. :D
