Anyone know if the spare on the 73 was a full size spare?

I'm thinking of buying a cheap steel wheel to use with one of the 225 70s that I just took off my car as a spare. Is this going to fit Okay in the carrier?

Any suggestions for a source for steel wheels?

Yes, I believe it was!!:upthumbs

The spare was full sized. They came with 5 matching wheels and tires.

Definitely a full size. I peak under the car every now and then to see it. I haven't had it down in 20 + years. Get road service, forget about cranking that monkey down- major PITA.

you need to know which wheel you need...the offset from the back or front of the wheel...not just any ole wheel will fit...i have asked here before the same thing...
Im going to go to a junk yard and find the wheel i need...sandblast it, paint it, and have a 15" tire put on it for my spare tire.
I think thats what you want right?
If anyone knows the size or the offset dimension, please let us know.

If I find out, I will post it here too.

All '69-'82 Corvette steel wheels were 15x8 with a -0.5" offset; the funky 15x5 aluminum spare wheel and mini-spare tire didn't start until 1979.

Yeah, but a fullsize tire will still fit under a 79, I've got a 225-70-15 tire under mine on a rally rim. I believe the carrier hangs down further than it's supposed to if it had a space saver spare, but I don't mind.

I just removed my entire spare tire carrier assm last week when I did the exhaust. I figure "screw it, I'm never gonna use it, so just get rid of it". It's still the original, unused tire on the rim, so I'll ebay it and make $3 on it...hahahah :L

$2.00 of the proceeds will go to the chiropractor, $1.00 to the dollar store.
