I have a 94 LT1 6-Speed Coupe, yesterday (Sunday) I hopped in to run to Wal-Mart, (the regular honey do stuff) anyway, I have been noticing over the last few weeks or so that when I go to use the Tilt steering it's been a little tuff some restistance pulling the lever to me, but nonetheless it still worked, anyway I pulled the wheel in place and low and behold when I put the key in and turn the igition the whole assembely turned.......finally after jacking with it and moving the steering wheel around I got it to start, I also noticed that the steering wheel sorta moves around rather than being fixed in place, I'm not much for removing the wheel because of that airbag, but I guess what I am asking is has anyone out there experience this type of thing on thier Vette?
Thanks

Happened to me when I was on the road in New Jersey, about 3000 miles from home!

What happens is the ignition "rack" (that's what he called it) gets twisted or bent I guess, allowing the key cylinder to turn. It may have something to do with how the wheel is sometimes grabbed to aide in exiting the car, and how the steering wheel gets pulled down without unlocking the mechanism first, thus wearing it out prematurely.

I took it to someone who replaced the rack in a half-hour or so, to the tune of $181.85 ($165 for the part alone).
