Other than Fuel rail covers w/ the Callaway "signature" and a TB Cover, how can one identify a Supernatural engine, looking at it from outside???

I know the B2K cars got a number placed on the block... Is that how it worked for the SNAT's as well...

What other unique items set it apart on the outside of the motor?

Thoughts and comments gladly welcomed :beer

either by reply or at turbo_2xs (at) hotmail.com

Thanks, *89x2*

As far asI know there really is no way, that's way documentation is really important, there is a Callaway plate inside the car above the center console trim, but no number sequence. I found out mine by calling Callaway #5 of 20 produced that year. They basically use all the same parts from the original LT1 except all the internals are different

Long time no hear!!!! Thanks for the reply, here's what I (kinda) found out... "Each Callaway SuperNatural 383 is identified by a unique Callaway engine number and the chassis number of the vehicle in which it is installed. The Callaway SuperNatural 383 is exchanged for your stock LT1 engine, which can be either new or (carefully) used."

But what that unique # is and where it is stamped, I do not know. If you find yours, please e mail me at turbo_2xs@hotmail.com thanks:)

did you try calling Joanne to see where it's located at. The only thing I could find was on the dyno sheet that lists the engine number, where it's located I have no idea. I'll look around the motor this weekend

any word from Joanne of the engine stamping, I have not found anything on mine. I figured I would wait on a call if you already talked to her

Sorry I didn't post back on this (thought I had e mailed ya...)
At any rate, I wound up taking mine up to the Callaway shop and had it "blessed" by Wayne, Jim and, John and Joanne took care of updating files to reflect the lack of any numbers on the outside where the "should be". We took lotsa pics while she was apart and everything Callaway was indeed there :)
Although I am not sure how many 92 SNAT's were made, I was told that as the first 93 SNAT, some things were done as they went along ;) It is also from what I understand, the first SNAT 425 as the 92 cars were SNAT 400's
Feel free to e mail me on this or, give Joanne a call as she was AWESOME w/ all of her help on this matter :beer

Mine was done in 94, I have to call her to find out what gives on the number.

Mine, as well as it's identical twin (car #93-002) were made in 1993 and were very well doccumented since they were constructed by a rather interesting Duo...w/ a lot of options. #001 & #002 were built at the exact same time and left the Callaway factory the same day...
As far as the numbers, I am glad I saw inside the motor and that the Callaway folks took a lot of time to ensure the specs, etc (Thanks CALLAWAY TEAM!!!!!!!!!!)

Is the date considered the start date or the delivery date
Mine was received in march of 93, but delivered in april of 94

The number would correspond to the car. Joanne should have record of your cars "engine #" and it should relate to the chassis #, on yours #5. < I would think it would be a 1993 related #.
Does your car not have a "dash plate"??? indicating it is SUPERNATURAL #5?

No, it has the console plate indicating Callaway, but I don't think any Supernatural cars listed the sequence number on that plate. At least the few that I have seen never had it. Joanne emialed me a few months ago and listed from 92-96 the total production of SuperNaturals by year, they never made more than 22 in one year if I remember right

my 93 SNAT has the plate mounted under the radio w/ SUPERNATURAL stamped. The # 001 on one end and Reeves' signature both eched into the plate w/ #425 eched on the other side. car #002 was it's "twin" and would have this as well...
That is GOOD that you have the plate as one car I had thought about (93 40th vert) was a "crate car" and did not have the plate, etc as it was ordered and installed by owner(?)
In latter years, plate moved to under pass. side airbag above the center vent.

The unique Callaway number is not stamped on the engine at all. It appears on the dyno sheet, as wll as a letter of authentication from Reeves, which also has warranty and break-in information. It basically states 1. Year of the Car ...... 2. VIN Number of the Car....... 3. Callaway No. ........ 4, Mileage when installed...... 5. Date of Installation........6. Owner. This information appeared at the bottom of page 2 of 2, which also has a Reeves "rubber stamp" signature, and an authetication signaure by one of the shop guys. In my case, it is Reeve's rubber stamp and Bill Prout's signature.

The other identifier is, of course, the throttle body plate which has the "SuperNatural 400, 425, 435, or 450", w/Mobil 1 on it. I don't think the ZR1's had any throttle body plate. Also, there is a rear hatch window sticker with the Callaway Supernatural words on it...... If anyone could get their hands on the throttle body plate and stickers, it could pass as a clone. The aluminum valve covers could also be purchased separately, which helps ID the car.

I documented my conversion as much as possible with photo's and correspondence so there would never be a question. Since Callaway's shop was only 2 1/2 hours from my previous home, I made more than a few trips to the shop.

that's the way mine is, no number on the plate which is mounted underneath the radio, along with the windshield and hatch decals, engine plate, throttle body plate , vaue covers and all the documentation that came from Callaway. I also called them before I purchased it and with the VIN there were able to tell me the exact dates the car was there and what work was done to it
Seems they might have changed the way they do things between 93 and 94

Good info! The LT5's I have seen have had a decal added to the center of the plenum w/ the hp package #. A lot of the things the shop did, don't seem 100% consistent over the years and I am told there were running changes even through the model year w/ respect to the conversion.
Speaking from my car's experience. I was quoted 2 places that on a SNAT it "should" have been "stamped" w/ the sequence #'s relating to Callaway's sequence #'s... mine did not have the #'s on either.
I had my engine taken apart to inspect the parts internally (since little on the outside tells you exactly what it is) and not only were all the parts the correct "brands" but they had a Callaway identifier on each part that could be verified back to the biuld paperwork. -This is key here, as why it is SO important that Callaway Cars have all paperwork for verification. As said, if you had decals you could try and pass a car off as a Faux SNAT (My car BTW, does not have a throttle body decal and has never had one - a magazine the car was in back when the car was built, showed the car as built w/ a plain black LT1 cover installed)

Thanks Chris! I read the whole thread and its all very interesting! I had called Joanne (actually emailed her) about a year ago and she gave me total production numbers, etc.

Most of what I read in this thread seems to line up with what I've seen on mine. I had thought, also, about bringing mine up to Old Lyme to have it "blessed", but its a long trip from Columbus. I guess part of the concern here is avoiding a "faux SNAT". However, you can definatly see the coil-overs and I do have quite a bit of documentation to go with the car.

Plus, when you mash down the accelerator, you know. ;)

I had my engine built in late 2003 and Joanne and Jim specifically told me that the numbers were on the new Supernatural Engine. If it ever quits raining here in Texas I'll put the car on the lift and look around for the markings and post pictures if I find it.

Seems that all SNAT owners should get together <GROUP BUY> and request the plates to be made and sent for each engine. I would gladly pay for the plate just for the record keeping. My wallet and reciepts are pretty good documentation but it would be nice to have a signed plate like the first car had.

Can anyone make this happen?
