Hi-
I have driven several friends Corvette's (1976 and 1982) and feel it is about time to own my own. I have a general question.....are there years when the interiors offer more leg and head room? I'm 6'6" and was cramped in the two I have driven. Are the newer or older models roomier?
Thanks from NW Kansas!
Paul

Paul, first off I believe a "welcome" is in order. You will find a great bunch of people here.

Now I will try to answer your question. First off, as you found out, the early cars were somewhat tight for a person of your stature. With that in mind, I would tend to say, by-pass the 4th generation (C4) cars as well (84-96) and try on a 5th generation (C5) car (97-04). These cars were designed to fit larger people. I'm not as big as you (6'2"/ 220) and I have my seat only half way back. 6th generation cars would work well for you too.

If you ever get down to southwest Kansas, give me a holler.

Thanks for info

Thanks Tom for the info. I'm up in NW Kansas, Atwood to be exact. I VERY much appreciate your info and will find a 97-04 I can at least sit in to see how if feels.

I noticed that you were in Atwood. Been a while since I was up there. If you ever get down this way, Ill let you drive mine.....:thumb

Welcome Paul!
I'm from Kansas myself, born in Salina, but lived most of my life in Texas.
I'm 6'6" as well and like you have found most Vettes too cramped.
Recently bought my first, a C6 convertible, best fit I could find. Not many cars made to fit guys like us. Good luck in your search.

Welcome to the Forum Footballref. Good luck with your search. It is usually a fun part of the find. :w

Welcome to the party.......I agree with what Tom says.....I'm 6' 2" and the car that fit me the most comfortable was the 02 C5 I had. My C6 is close but not as roomy as the C5. My Mom lives in Manhattan and I did part of my early years there.

Welcome to CAC!!!!
enjoy!!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center

Welcome aboard Paul from Kansas we're glad you've joined us :happyanim:

I have a friend who is 6' 4" crouched down some and probably weighs around 240ish plus and drives a C-5 roadster daily in the summer, he seems to have enough room but it is full for sure!!! On occassion I pick him up in my C-5 and he seems to be fairly comfortable but again the car is full. You know once you master the entry and exit of a Corvette that's half the battle. Of course he has a little more breathing room or at least makes him feel better in his roadster with the top down. Not perfect but he makes it work!

Paul, welcome to the group.

At 6'2'', I find my C5 Z06 has plenty of legroom, but the headroom is a little tight. I believe the convertible would be the best choice, but I like the look of the fixed roof, so I adapt. Good luck with your quest.

Welcome to the :CAC

I have no comment. I don't qualify, at 6'1" I'm a shorty. :)

Like to see more pictures of your '58, one of my all time favorites. A classic for sure and made Corvettes what they are today, love those old classics!

Thanks,
-Bill :w

Nice Classic

Nice looking :BOW1958 Corvette Classic:BOW, are those Cragar SS on it? Were the original wheels steel with hub caps? You have them too? I don't suppose you are interested in selling it; probably couldn't afford it anyway but would love to have a classic like this. Thanks for post the pictures, really enjoyed looking at them and of course I saved them. Makes me feel good too and I can't say something like this too much anymore but I was only years old when this classic was made. . . . . Oh the reason I asked about the hub cap is I have a full size hub cap that I think came off a Corvette in or around this vintage. It's been hanging on my wall in the shop for years.

I'm pleased that you like my '58. It is fun to still be able to drive one of the older Corvettes. This is the one that started it all for me. I purchased it in May of 1968. Back then this was my only car, so we went everywhere together. It is now relegated to fair weather driving maybe once a month or so.

I do have the original wheels and hubcaps in the garage. The Cragar SS wheels were installed just after I bought the car so they kind of go with it now.

Here is a pic of the way it looked when I bought it. Thanks again. "Speed Safely"

The Cragar SS wheels look good on it, just curious as to what the hub caps look like, the one I have hanging in the garage that I mentioned I always thought was off a 58 but never knew for sure that is why I wondered what yours looked like, assumed they have the crossed flags in the middle but didn't know for sure. So was the car originally red or gray? Does it have the 265 V-8 & 3-speed stick?

Bill, the '58 had been repainted Honduras Maroon by the original owner. That's the color that was on it when I got it. I returned it to its original color, Charcoal, in 1980.
Somewhere in this pile of stuff I have here, there is a pic of it with the original wheels and hubcaps with the wide whites. Gives it a totally different look. I'll post up a pic soon.

Here are a couple of pics of other cars for comparison.
First, a '58

and a '61

Notice the differences in the caps. The '61 is slotted, where the '58 is solid. The solid style was used from '56 to '58. '59 to '62 used the slotted ones.
