I wish Ken was around but Ive had ENOUGH of these bloody pipes. Im going to wipe the slate clean and I want to start looking at headers (Prbly TPiS) and new plumbing to the side pipes.

I need to know if the new pipes affect ride clearance, Are the Covers fiberglass?, What kind a muffling system do they have, Are they a relativly simple install? and Of course Price.

Thanks (To bad I got 2 Brand new Dynomax 1200 CFM Mufflers)

I'll try to be a Ken-surrogate (taking up maybe half the toe area of his shoes... :) ).

I spent a *long* time at Carlisle talking to PowerEffects and some of their customers. I got mixed reviews in the clearance department but RAVE reviews in the sound/power/looks department... Out of four owners I talked to (random sampling while looking around), two had zero clearance problems, one scraped on driveways and speedbumps, and one had to raise his car an inch (you could tell, but barely) to not scrape on anything in sight. The covers are fiberglass if I remember, comes unpainted. The muffling system is interesting - a spiral-wound core that muffles the sound, wrapped around a holed pipe with a baffle at one end. You can open or close the baffle to any of six settings, from full open to full close. At full open, sound is loud but there's not a lot more power than full close (which is claimed to be quieter but more power than stock). I was quoted about $1300 for a non-show price. Installation is supposed to be about 2 hours - everything bolts to stock locations. Now, for the older C4's, we don't get one of their performance resonator replacement pieces so our power gains aren't as noticeable as the LT1. PE claims 12 HP at the wheels (dyno proven on an otherwise stock vehicle) and 21 with other mods, if memory serves.

Looks are killer. Me, though, I've pretty much decided against them for the scrape factor. I'm still considering the normal PowerEffects, though, which is about $500 cheaper and has no clearance problems. I had asked Ken about his maybe two months ago; I think you can search on Side Effects and find it.

So - what will you take for the Dynamax's? :)

Good job Rich! :upthumbs

The side covers for the Side Effects system (rocker panels) hold up real well to some severe abuse; I know from experience. Clearance issues are relative of course. ;)

_ken :w

By the way, Steve (P-ColaVette) loves his Dynomax mufflers (and I thought they sounded pretty good too.) :D
