ok i have a leak on my 91 vette on the theromostat housing
i have for the 3rd time tryed to fix this
it never leaked that i know of wheni had the stock base
now that i put at tpis big mouth base on it i cant get it to stop leaking?
any one got a good idea how to stop it
i have used rtv sealent and it still leaked
i have double gasketed it (i know that never works but i am sort at my wits end and thought it would give it a try)

Maybe the new intake uses an o-ring or o-ring gasket combo?:confused

thanks for the reply but there is nothing there for an O ring

Stupid question, are you sure it's not cracked? It may not leak till it gets hot and expands?

your not over tightening the bolts are you? one thing i liek to do is let what ever sealant your useing with the gasket dry over night before i put coolant in. not sure the torque value but you may want to try to torque the bolts. and put the houseing on known flat and make sure its o.k.

Are you sure you have the thermostat in correctly?

Glenn

I would add the possibility of the housing bieng warped. Never know with those types of things. Perhaps when it was taken off, or put back on the first time. When I bought my TPIS big mouth from a forum member there was a housing on it. It is possible the stock one will not fit. Good Luck, Craig

no its not cracked i cleaned it up really well and looked it over with my drop light lighing up where i was looking

ya i thought of it maybe being warped
i am going to check that next time
thanks for the replys guys
i am really scratching my head over this one

Is your engine stock other than the intake manifold? What are you doing about the plenum and runners, or are those stock also? I am curious to know what kind of gains you will see with that manifold. I put that manifold on my 383, with siamesed runners, and ported plenum.

ok here is my set up
i am just doing the mods now and just about done (just got a few minor things then its complete)

tpis afr heads, tpis headers, cop cams custom ground soild roller cam (dur@.050 218/224 gross lift on both .577 lsa 113), 1.6 comp cams magnum rr, cloyes true double roller timing chain, tpis big mouth intake(port matched), accel super ram ((port matched), bbk 52 mm throttle boddy, dewitts rad, b&m 2400 hole shot converter, rebuilt the 700r4 and installed a transcat shift kit, custom chip done by fast chip (ed wright), gutted cat, and borla cat back, 24lbs ford injectors, afpr
i have done all the free mods ie tb bypass, remove frisbie ect
vette has 3.07 in the rear

got any guess what the 1/4 mile time will be?

just as a follow up for people who will read this in the future for an answer
i changed the theromstat housing and it seems to have stoped leaking
and when i put the old one ona flat surface it teedered todered back and forth

Take a piece of glass and tape some sandpaper on to it. Paint the bottom of what ever you what to see is flat and rub it on the sandpaper. This will show you the high and low spots. It will also flatten out the high spots.

thanks for the reply man
but i went to the dealer and bought a new one
i was not in to screwing around with it any more
i just wanted it fixed

I know you fixed it, but I've been there too! I used the high dollar FEL-PRO gasket. They sell a thick, blue silicone/reinforced plastic gasket. I wouldn't use a cruddy paper gasket.
